Red Sox | Felix Doubront makes tweaks

Thu, 16 May 2013 15:13:39 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Felix Doubront worked with pitching coach Juan Nieves to adjust the stride in his delivery in order to generate more velocity and improve the command of his pitches. Doubront has given up 12 runs in nine innings in his last two outings, and he's pitching to keep his spot in the rotation right now. SPs Allen Webster and Franklin Morales (pectoral) could take his spot if he continues to struggle.

Fantasy Tip: Doubront must have a better outing tonight in order for the Red Sox to consider keeping him in the rotation over Morales or Webster. Morales is probably the better bet to take the rotation spot since the team is adamant on keeping him stretched out as a starter. Keep Morales in mind in your AL-only leagues.

Red Sox | Franklin Morales still rehabbing

Wed, 15 May 2013 16:10:52 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Franklin Morales (pectoral) pitched three innings for Triple-A Pawtucket Monday, May 13, and he'll go four innings for Pawtucket Saturday, May 18. The team prefers to use him as starting rotation depth, so he'll continue to be stretched out as a starter, and he could replace SP Felix Doubront in the rotation if he continues to struggle.

Fantasy Tip: Morales is an option strictly in AL-only leagues for now because he isn't guaranteed a rotation spot just yet. If you're desperate, add him now and stash him.

Red Sox | Felix Doubront to start Thursday

Fri, 10 May 2013 18:19:47 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Felix Doubront will make his next scheduled start Thursday, May 16. Doubront will not be available out of the bullpen because the team wants him to use the extra time to work on his issues. Manager John Farrell said Doubront is not dealing with any apparent injuries.

Red Sox | Felix Doubront expected to start next week

Thu, 09 May 2013 18:14:44 -0700

Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell said SP Felix Doubront is expected to rejoin the starting rotation at some point next week despite his drop in velocity and recent lack of success.

Fantasy Tip: Doubront had struggled in his last few starts and briefly lost his spot in the starting rotation. Owners should keep him on their bench until he can have one or two solid outings.

Red Sox | Franklin Morales continues rehab

Thu, 09 May 2013 17:11:31 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Franklin Morales (pectoral) will make his next rehab start with Triple-A Pawtucket Monday, May 13, and he will go three innings. He pitched two scoreless innings for Double-A Portland Wednesday, May 8, and displayed nice velocity. He'll need at least two more rehab appearances before he's ready to return to the team.

Fantasy Tip: Morales could very well become an option for the No. 5 starting rotation spot with Felix Doubront struggling. Keep an eye out for Morales, mainly in AL-only setups.

Red Sox | Allen Webster sent down

Thu, 09 May 2013 11:16:51 -0700

The Boston Red Sox optioned SP Allen Webster to the minors Wednesday, May 8, and recalled RP Jose De La Torre in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Webster had a nightmare outing against the Seattle Mariners last night, allowing eight earned runs (two homers) while walking three and striking out two in just 1 2/3 frames. That wasn't the outing Boston was looking for in order to convince them to keep him in the rotation. Expect Felix Doubront to re-enter the rotation next week.

Red Sox | Allen Webster could stick around

Tue, 07 May 2013 16:19:32 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Allen Webster could remain with the team for a while depending on how long the bullpen remains depleted and how well he pitches. He tossed six scoreless innings with Triple-A Pawtucket last Friday and struck out nine hitters. SP Felix Doubront, who was moved to the bullpen temporarily, allowed 12 hits and six runs in 3 2/3 innings in his last outing and had decreased velocity. Doubront has walked 13 hitters in 18 1/3 innings in his previous three starts. Webster has struck out 26 hitters in 20 innings with Pawtucket, and scouts are saying that he has the best stuff of any pitcher in camp. If he pitches well Wednesday, May 8, he may be in line for an extended stay in the rotation.

Fantasy Tip: Thanks to Doubront's struggles, Webster may control his own destiny for an extended rotation stay. As a result, deep mixed leaguers should consider putting him on their roster. He warrants ownership in most AL-only leagues, too, for his upside.

Red Sox | Allen Webster making spot start

Tue, 07 May 2013 13:34:55 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Allen Webster will be making a spot start Wednesday, May 8, and SP Felix Doubront will go back into the rotation for his subsequent start, according to manager John Farrell.

Red Sox | Joel Hanrahan to DL

Tue, 07 May 2013 13:23:18 -0700

The Boston Red Sox placed RP Joel Hanrahan (forearm) on the 15-day disabled list with a right forearm strain Tuesday, May 7, and recalled SP Allen Webster from Triple-A Pawtucket in a corresponding move. Webster will make the start Wednesday, May 8, and SP Felix Doubront will move to the bullpen starting Tuesday.

Fantasy Tip: It's probably safe now to drop Hanrahan in mixed leagues since Andrew Bailey (biceps) is expected to return from the DL before him. Hanrahan lost his opportunity to work his way back into the closer's role, and now Junichi Tazawa is closing out games. Webster could be valuable in AL leagues depending on how long he'll stick in the rotation.

Red Sox | Felix Doubront to start Tuesday

Sat, 13 Apr 2013 09:10:29 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Felix Doubront threw a two-inning simulated game Saturday, April 13. He had been scheduled to pitch against the Tampa Bay Rays Friday, April 12, but his start was rained out. He will pitch against the Cleveland Indians Tuesday, April 16.
