The San Diego Padres fired hitting coach Randy Ready Thursday, Sept. 29, after the team went 71-91. The team has gone through four hitting coaches since moving to PETCO Park in 2004.

The San Diego Padres announced their coaching staff Monday, Oct. 18, for the 2011 season, according to MLB.com's Corey Brock. Dave Roberts will serve as the new first base coach and Rick Renteria will move to bench coach, with former bench coach Ted Simmons not returning. Bullpen coach Darrell Akerfelds, pitching coach Darren Balsley, third base coach Glenn Hoffman and hitting coach Randy Ready will all return.

San Diego Padres bench coach Rick Renteria is expected to return as the bench coach next season, according to MLB.com's Corey Brock. However, the Toronto Blue Jays have received permission to interview him for their managerial opening. Special assistant Dave Roberts will serve as the team's first base coach next year. Bench coach Ted Simmons will be pursuing a managerial position in the offseason. Pitching coach Darren Balsley, hitting coach Randy Ready and bullpen coach Darrel Akerfelds are all expected to return.

Corey Brock, of MLB.com, reports the San Diego Padres agreed to one-year contract extensions with their entire coaching staff for the 2010 season, which includes bench coach Ted Simmons, hitting coach Randy Ready, pitching coach Darren Balsley, first base coach Rick Renteria, third base coach Glenn Hoffman and bullpen coach Darrel Akerfelds.

The Associated Press reports free-agent manager Ned Yost (Brewers) interviewed for the Houston Astros' vacant managerial position Thursday, Oct. 15. San Diego Padres hitting coach Randy Ready is scheduled to be interviewed later in the day.
