New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery and miss the remainder of the 2016 season. His 2017 season could also be in jeopardy. The surgery is to repair a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. The recovery time could be a maximum of 18 months.

Yankees | Nathan Eovaldi wins second straight start

Sun, 24 Jul 2016 13:38:28 -0700

New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi continued his resurgence since rejoining the rotation in a victory over the San Francisco Giants on Sunday, July 24, allowing two hits and striking out six over 6 2/3 innings.

Fantasy Tip: Eovaldi posted a 0-4 record and 9.20 ERA over a six-start stretch from June 3 to July 1, leading to a swift demotion to the bullpen. The 26-year-old turned in three scoreless efforts as a reliever and defeated the Baltimore Orioles in his return to the rotation on July 19. It might be a good time to see if Eovaldi's owner bailed on him during his rough stretch; he's well worth a speculative add as a fairly high-end back-of-the-rotation fantasy starter when he is on his game like he is now.

Yankees | Nathan Eovaldi posts eighth win

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 19:34:40 -0700

New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi allowed one earned run, four hits and two walks with one strikeout over 5 1/3 innings in a win Tuesday, July 19, against the Baltimore Orioles. He threw 48 of his 82 pitches for strikes.

Fantasy Tip: Eovaldi returned to the rotation for the first time since July 1. He needs to show a little more consistency before he can be trusted outside of deeper AL-only fantasy leagues again. This was a start.

Rangers | Texas looking at Yankee starters

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 11:13:47 -0700

New York Yankees SPs Nathan Eovaldi, Ivan Nova and CC Sabathia are being scouted by the Texas Rangers because New York might be willing to part with one of their starters for a second-tier Texas prospect.

Fantasy Tip: Eovaldi and Sabathia have flashed signs of brilliance this season, but neither look the part of a reliable starter currently. And Nova has been an underwhelming pitcher all season. There is potential for a slight fantasy boost wearing a new uniform, and Texas is a contender, but it wouldn't catapult any one of the trio into the must-start category. Stay tuned for updates.

Pirates | Pittsburgh looking at Nathan Eovaldi

Sat, 16 Jul 2016 07:12:04 -0700

New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi has received some trade interest from the Pittsburgh Pirates, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Eovaldi currently has a 5.11 ERA but will be rejoining the Yankees starting rotation next week. The Pirates are expected to look for starting pitching at the trade deadline and could pursue Eovaldi if the price is right. He probably would not be a great mixed league option but would have value in NL-only leagues.

Yankees | Nathan Eovaldi, Ivan Nova facing O's

Fri, 15 Jul 2016 14:53:15 -0700

New York Yankees SPs Ivan Nova and Nathan Eovaldi will start against the Baltimore Orioles Monday, July 18, and Tuesday, July 19, respectively.

Fantasy Tip: Both Yankee hurlers have an ERA north of 5.00, and against one of the best offenses in baseball, Nova and Eovaldi are desperation fantasy options for their next outings. They remain viable arms in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues, but you'll want to be extremely selective with their matchups in shallower formats.

Yankees | Masahiro Tanaka roughed up by Tribe

Sun, 10 Jul 2016 13:57:36 -0700

New York Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka couldn't get the final out he needed to pick up a win despite being staked to an 11-1 fifth-inning lead Sunday, July 10, against the Cleveland Indians. Tanaka was charged with seven runs (three earned) on 10 hits and two walks in 4 2/3 frames before yielding to Nathan Eovaldi, who allowed only one hit across 4 1/3 scoreless innings.

Fantasy Tip: Tananka didn't exactly cruise through his first four frames, but a throwing error by Didi Gregorius and a two-run homer from Tyler Naquin proved to be his undoing. The 2014 All-Star will still head into the break with a 6-2 record, 3.23 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 93 strikeouts in 117 innings of work, making him a solid second or third starting pitcher in most leagues.
