Yankees | Nathan Eovaldi has solid outing

Tue, 24 May 2016 20:53:27 -0700

New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi pitched six scoreless innings against the Toronto Blue Jays Tuesday, May 24, to pick up his fifth win of the season. He allowed two hits during the game, while striking out five batters and walking three.

Fantasy Tip: Eovaldi has pitched well recently and has allowed only six runs over his last four starts. He is scheduled to face the Tampa Bay Rays in his next start and should be a decent starting option in most fantasy leagues.

Yankees | Nathan Eovaldi defeats Kansas City

Thu, 12 May 2016 18:51:09 -0700

New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi (3-2) allowed three runs on eight hits over five innings in a victory over the Kansas City Royals Thursday, May 12, with two walks and three strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Eovaldi has only had three quality starts in eight outings this season, so he should be viewed as a risky play against most opponents. His next scheduled start will come against the Arizona Diamondbacks Tuesday, May 17.

Yankees | Nathan Eovaldi flirts with no-hitter

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 22:04:02 -0700

New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi held the Texas Rangers hitless for six innings Monday, April 25. He ended up allowing two hits and two walks with six strikeouts over seven innings in the 98-pitch quality start for his first victory of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Eovaldi pitched well near his hometown of Alvin, Texas, also the hometown of Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan. This was his finest outing of the season. He remains a must-start fantasy option in all leagues pitching for a contender and working in front of a decent defense.

Yankees | Nathan Eovaldi throws fourth-hardest

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 15:55:06 -0700

New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi's average fastball is 97.8 mph, which is the fourth-highest average amongst all starting pitchers in the major leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Eovaldi perennially ranks amongst the hardest throwers in the bigs, but it hasn't yet quite translated into that breakout season many figured the right-hander would have had by now. He did go a career-best 14-3 in 27 starts last season, albeit while registering a 4.20 ERA and 1.45 WHIP. His strikeout rate also is not as effective as it can be, considering his velocity, but he's out to a fine start in that department thus far, with 15 K's in 11 2/3 total innings pitched. There's still some untapped potential here.

Yankees | Nathan Eovaldi has so-so outing

Thu, 07 Apr 2016 16:59:49 -0700

New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi allowed six hits and five earned runs in five innings against the Houston Astros Thursday, April 7. He earned the no-decision while also walking none and striking out seven. Eovaldi allowed two home runs in the outing.

Fantasy Tip: Eovaldi has been frustrating for fantasy owners because of his shaky control at times. Home runs have also been a problem for the hard-throwing right-hander, but if he can limit his walks like he did today and keep the ball on the ground, good things could be in store. For now he's limited to cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues, but he can be attractive in daily formats in cushy matchups.

Yankees | Nathan Eovaldi has good matchup

Thu, 07 Apr 2016 09:58:27 -0700

New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi was 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA in two starts against the Houston Astros last season. Eovaldi faces the Astros Thursday, April 7.

Fantasy Tip: It's a small sample size and doesn't really mean a whole lot. However, if you're looking to pinch some pennies in DFS, it's food for thought.

Yankees | Nathan Eovaldi declares himself ready

Wed, 06 Apr 2016 22:35:32 -0700

New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi (elbow) is scheduled to start Thursday, April 7, against the Houston Astros. He did not pitch beyond Sept. 5 last season due to elbow inflammation, but said his arm is 100 percent.

Fantasy Tip: Eovaldi posted 14 wins in 17 decisions with a 4.20 ERA last season. As long as he is truly 100 percent he is a strong AL-only fantasy option and useful back-end rotation option in most mixed formats, too.

Yankees | Nathan Eovaldi to be No. 3 starter

Thu, 31 Mar 2016 18:17:09 -0700

New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi will start the team's third game of the regular season Thursday, April 7, against the Houston Astros, according to manager Joe Girardi.

Fantasy Tip: Eovaldi should be viewed as a back-of-the-rotation option in mixed leagues. The 26-year-old right-hander led the American League in winning percentage (.824) after going 14-3 in 27 starts last season but posted a 4.20 ERA and a WHIP of 1.45.

Yankees | Nathan Eovaldi blowing cheddar

Thu, 10 Mar 2016 16:02:28 -0800

New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi (groin) hit 99 mph on the radar gun in his Grapefruit League debut Thursday, March 10, and he displayed good command during his outing. Eovaldi threw two perfect innings against the Toronto Blue Jays, and his groin issue appears to be behind him.

Fantasy Tip: A new splitter last year led to increasing dominance and ground-ball profile for Eovaldi in the second half. Shaky control has always been Eovaldi's Achilles' heel, but if he can improve in that area, he could make significant gains in 2016. Target Eovaldi as your No. 4 fantasy starter in the later rounds.

Mon, 29 Feb 2016 07:57:41 -0800

New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi (groin) had a side session pushed back to Wednesday, March 2, due to groin tightness.

Fantasy Tip: Eovaldi is a depth flyer at the back end of drafts.
