Yankees | Nathan Eovaldi inks deal

Tue, 19 Jan 2016 14:54:59 -0800

New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi avoided arbitration and settled for a one-year deal worth $5.6 million.

Fantasy Tip: Eovaldi is a tough pitcher to figure out. On one side of the equation, he's one of the hardest-throwing pitchers in the league, and he's coming off a year that saw him win a career-high 14 games. On the other end of it, he finished with a 4.20 ERA and 1.45 WHIP, as opposing lineups hit .285 off the right-hander. All in all, he's not a bad late-round target.

Yankees | Nathan Eovaldi files for arbitration

Sat, 16 Jan 2016 12:22:25 -0800

New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi has filed for salary arbitration. He is seeking a one-year deal worth $6.3 million while the team has countered with a $4.9 million offer.

Fantasy Tip: Eovaldi went 14-3 with a 4.20 ERA in 27 starts for the Yanks last season and led American League starting pitchers in winning percentage. He should be viewed as a middle-of-the-rotation arm in AL-only leagues and a back-of-the-rotation option in mixed formats.

Yankees | Nathan Eovaldi throws Friday

Fri, 02 Oct 2015 18:55:54 -0700

New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi (elbow) threw a bullpen session Friday, Oct. 2, and is expected to throw a second session Monday, Oct. 5. According to manager Joe Girardi, he would need to face live hitters in a simulated game or at the team's minor league complex before he could be added to a playoff roster.

Fantasy Tip: In a best-case scenario, Eovaldi could be added to the Yankees' American League Division Series roster if the team wins their wild-card game, where he would be used in single-inning appearances out of the bullpen. FantasyScore owners can ignore him as long as he is not being used in a starting role.

Yankees | Nathan Eovaldi unlikely for wild card

Mon, 28 Sep 2015 15:02:40 -0700

New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi (elbow) is unlikely to be on the roster for the wild-card game, according to manager Joe Girardi. Girardi noted Eovaldi could be available as a reliever later in the playoffs, though.

Fantasy Tip: Seasonal owners can safely drop Eovaldi in all yearly leagues, and he is only worth a roster spot in deep keeper/dynasty formats. He posted a 9-1 record with a 3.43 ERA and 71 strike outs through 84 innings pitched over his final 14 starts, so there is upside, especially entering his age-26 season.

Yankees | Nathan Eovaldi likely to the bullpen

Mon, 21 Sep 2015 18:26:21 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi (elbow) has yet to be cleared to begin a throwing program, and he is unlikely to return this season to be used as a starter in the playoffs, even if he is cleared soon. The initial hope was for Eovaldi to return this week, but that is off the table.

Fantasy Tip: Eovaldi ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) might return to help the team in the postseason, but it sounds like his role will be out of the bullpen and not in a starting capacity. As such, he would have no value in FantasyScore.

Yankees | Nathan Eovaldi not cleared

Mon, 21 Sep 2015 14:18:49 -0700

New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi (elbow) is still dealing with inflammation in his right elbow and hasn't been cleared to throw.

Fantasy Tip: Eovaldi ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) could return to pitch in the postseason, but even that seems highly unlikely right now. Eovaldi shouldn't be owned in any redraft leagues at this point.

Yankees | Nathan Eovaldi unlikely to return

Tue, 08 Sep 2015 16:59:37 -0700

New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi (elbow) is unlikely to pitch again in the regular season because of inflammation in his right elbow, according to general manager Brian Cashman. An MRI exam showed no structural damage, though, according to Cashman. Eovaldi received a platelet-rich plasma injection and doctors ordered him to shut everything down for two weeks. A throwing program is expected to take another two weeks after that. Even if Eovaldi returns this year, it might not be as a starter. Eovaldi said the elbow pain he has now is different from the elbow soreness he had when he underwent Tommy John surgery in high school. SP Adam Warren will return to the starting rotation to replace Eovaldi.

Fantasy Tip: You should drop Eovaldi in redraft leagues if you own him. Warren pitched well earlier this year in the New York rotation, and he's one to consider adding if you need to rotation help down the stretch in AL-only leagues. He'll be cheap on FantasyScore but is only a sleeper option in the right matchup as your second pitcher.

Yankees | Nathan Eovaldi turns in great effort

Mon, 24 Aug 2015 21:57:06 -0700

New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi allowed allowed just four singles and three walks over eight scoreless innings in a no-decision Monday, Aug. 24, against the Houston Astros.

Fantasy Tip: Eovaldi ($6,700, 13.4% of cap) has a 13-2 record with a 4.00 ERA in his first season with the team. He is especially useful to FantasyScore players when he is at home, as Eovaldi is 5-0 with a 3.08 ERA in 12 starts at Yankee Stadium as opposed to a 4.94 ERA in 13 road starts.
