Cleveland Indians SP Zach McAllister learned how to throw a splitter during spring training and has started throwing the pitch during games. He said he probably threw the pitch seven to 10 times in his last start. Manager Terry Francona said he does not want McAllister to use the pitch too often since he is still working on improving the pitch.

Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona has named SP Zach McAllister as the team's No. 4 starter. P David Huff, who was competing for the fifth spot in the rotation, has been moved to the bullpen.

Rangers | Jurickson Profar takes a walk

Texas Rangers SS Jurickson Profar has six walks in 14 plate appearances. Profar also had a two-run triple against Cleveland Indians SP Zach McAllister in the second inning of an 18-0 win over the Indians on Thursday, Feb. 28. In his first major league at-bat, Profar homered against McAllister.

Cleveland Indians Ps Justin Masterson, Ubaldo Jimenez, Brett Myers and Zach McAllister are all but locked for four of the first five rotation spots. Ps Trevor Bauer, Carlos Carrasco (elbow), David Huff, Scott Kazmir, Corey Kluber (knee) and Daisuke Matsuzaka are among the candidates vying for the job.

Cleveland Indians SP Carlos Carrasco (elbow) will likely be on an innings limit this season as he comes back from a right elbow injury last season. He has received a clean bill of health heading into spring training and will compete with SPs Zach McAllister, Trevor Bauer, Corey Kluber, Scott Kazmir and David Huff for the final two spots in the rotation.

Cleveland Indians P Corey Kluber (knee) underwent surgery to remove torn meniscus from his right knee Friday, Nov. 30, after his knee recently locked up on him. He's expected to challenge for a starting rotation spot in spring training. SP Zach McAllister will also receive a long look for the rotation.

Indians | Zach McAllister picks up win

Cleveland Indians SP Zach McAllister won for the first time in nine starts Sunday, Sept. 30, in a 15-3 win over the Kansas City Royals. It was his first win since beating the Boston Red Sox on Aug. 11. The rookie was 4-1 with a 3.17 ERA in his first eight starts after being called up from Triple-A Columbus. He has yielded three runs or fewer in 16 of 22 starts overall.

Cleveland Indians SP Zach McAllister may be showing some signs of fatigue as the season reaches its final weeks. "It's very late in the season," manager Manny Acta said. "He could be fatigued. Some of these guys are playing an extra month than they have played in the past. We're still very impressed with the way he's gone about his business here every five days." McAllister has thrown a career-high 176 innings between the minors and majors this season, and he likely has two starts remaining. He's gone 1-6 with a 5.72 ERA in his last 10 starts (50 1/3 innings) compared to 4-2 with a 3.18 ERA in his first 10 starts.
