New York Mets RP Jeurys Familia had difficulty getting loose Tuesday, July 8, and will not be used Wednesday, July 9. Manager Terry Collins called it a red flag.
Fantasy Tip: Familia finished off the Braves last night in a non-save situation, when Jenrry Mejia was unavailable. Familia appears to be the No. 2 candidate for saves for the Mets, so he is worth a speculative add in NL-only and deep leagues, if you're searching for saves. However, if there is a health issue, Carlos Torres or Vic Black could be next in line.

New York Mets RP Daisuke Matsuzaka (illness) remains unavailable Monday, June 16, after leaving after one inning with extreme stomach pain Sunday, June 15. Also unavailable Monday will be RPs Carlos Torres and Vic Black. Torres threw four innings and Black went two Sunday. Manager Terry Collins thinks RP Jenrry Mejia, who threw two innings Sunday, would be available.

New York Mets RP Carlos Torres (lat) is dealing with an "upper lat issue," but it's not considered to be serious. It's unknown if he'll be able to pitch Tuesday, May 6.
Fantasy Tip: Torres is a lurker for save opportunities if Kyle Farnsworth and Daisuke Matsuzaka continue to be unreliable in high-leverage situations late in games. Keep Torres' name in mind if you're in a very deep league.

New York Mets RP Daisuke Matsuzaka blew a three-run lead in the eighth inning in a loss to the Miami Marlins Monday, May 5. Matsuzaka walked the first two hitters he faced in the inning. "When I was warming up in the bullpen, I was struggling with my command," Matsuzaka said through an interpreter. "Going into the game, I just tried to focus on the batter and getting outs. But I couldn't control my body well today. I really regret taking away Niese's win and the team win." Matsuzaka had walked six in 10 1/3 innings in seven relief appearances prior to Monday's outing, but he was working for the third straight day after warming up in the bullpen Sunday, May 4. RPs Carlos Torres and Jeurys Familia were unavailable to pitch Monday.
Fantasy Tip: Such are the perils of owning Dice-K in hopes he receives some save opportunities. He technically isn't even the closer - that job belongs to Kyle Farnsworth - making him mainly an NL-only commodity desperate owners.

New York Mets RP Jeurys Familia hasn't been used in a game since last Friday, but manager Terry Collins said Familia is healthy. Familia is now in the long-relief role with RPs Daisuke Matsuzaka and Carlos Torres in late-inning roles. Collins plans to get Familia into a game soon.

New York Mets manager Terry Collins said RP Carlos Torres will make the team's opening day roster in the bullpen.
Tue, 17 Sep 2013 12:42:39 -0700
New York Mets P Carlos Torres will move to the bullpen for a few days as the team goes with a modified six-man starting rotation. SP Zack Wheeler is currently at 163 2/3 innings on the year entering his start Tuesday, Sept. 17, meaning he'll likely only have one more start. Torres will return to the rotation Sunday, Sept. 22.

The New York Mets signed free-agent SP Daisuke Matsuzaka (Indians) to an undisclosed deal Thursday, Aug. 22. Matsuzaka could enter the rotation and take the spot of SP Carlos Torres. The team is trying to limit the innings of SPs Matt Harvey and Zack Wheeler down the stretch.
Fantasy Tip: Matsuzaka might need a few minor league tune-ups before jumping into the Mets' rotation. Consider him only if you're desperate in NL-only universes. That's if he even gets called up.
