DJ LeMahieu Fantasy Baseball News, Notes, Rumors and Statistics
The latest DJ LeMahieu MLB and fantasy baseball news
Fri, 14 Jun 2013 14:25:55 -0700 The Colorado Rockies placed SS Troy Tulowitzki (rib) on the disabled list with a rib fracture on his right side. They recalled 2B Josh Rutledge from Class AAA Colorado Springs. Fantasy Tip: Expect Rutledge to factor into the middle-infield mix, in some form, with Tulo dinged. Rutledge is a much better mixed option than DJ LeMahieu and Jonathan Herrera. On Friday, Rutledge is playing the keystone, and Herrera is playing shortstop. Platoon matchups might determine much of these arrangements.
Fri, 14 Jun 2013 12:03:16 -0700 Colorado Rockies 2B Josh Rutledge is on his way to Denver, according to a major league source. He's expected to play some shortstop with Troy Tulowitzki (rib) landing on the disabled list, and he'll probably hit second. Fantasy Tip: If someone in your deep mixed league ditched Rutledge, snatch him up immediately. There's plenty of reason to take the chance that he'll recover some of his 2012 magic, and he should have at least a month's worth of time, even if he has to split reps with DJ LeMahieu and Jonathan Herrera.
Fri, 24 May 2013 13:06:42 -0700 Colorado Rockies INF DJ LeMahieu, 24, is now the team's starting second baseman after 2B Josh Rutledge was optioned to the minors. "I am excited to be part of this team. We are winning, and it's a lot more fun," LeMahieu said. "At the same time, I'm not taking anything for granted. I see how quickly things can change." Rutledge hit .286 in May and was on pace for 18 home runs and 18 stolen bases, but his defensive shortcomings hurt him the most. LeMahieu made the decision easier by going 7-for-17 recently and 4-for-8 earlier this week in back-to-back starts at the keystone. LeMahieu is hitting .305 in 88 career games for the Rockies, and he's committed only two errors in 327 chances in 70 games at second base in Colorado. Fantasy Tip: LeMahieu doesn't have as exciting speed or power skills as Rutledge, but he can boost your batting average at a position that is rather thin. LeMahieu can run a bit, too. The Rockies are clearly favoring defense over offense right now at the keystone. LeMahieu makes for nice middle infield depth in deep leagues, but expect Rutledge to be back sooner rather than later.
Wed, 22 May 2013 19:56:38 -0700 Colorado Rockies INF DJ LeMahieu will take over as the regular second baseman following the demotion of 2B Josh Rutledge to Triple-A Colorado Springs. Fantasy Tip: LeMahieu is worth adding in most NL-only fantasy leagues and deeper mixed formats, especially if you need middle infielder assistance.
Thu, 16 May 2013 15:09:31 -0700 The Colorado Rockies placed SP Jeff Francis (groin) on the 15-day disabled list with a left groin strain Thursday, May 16, and designated INF Reid Brignac for assignment. 3B DJ LeMahieu and P Rob Scahill were both recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs. Fantasy Tip: Tyler Chatwood and Drew Pomeranz are both candidates to replace Francis in the rotation, starting Sunday. Roy Oswalt is probably the best long-term bet for this rotation spot, though, but all three of these options are risky propositions in mixed formats.
Wed, 27 Mar 2013 15:20:46 -0700 Colorado Rockies 2B Reid Brignac is now the clear front-runner to land the utility infield job after the team optioned 3B DJ LeMahieu to the minors. INF Jonathan Herrera has minor league options remaining.
Wed, 27 Mar 2013 14:28:30 -0700 The Colorado Rockies optioned 3B DJ LeMahieu to Triple-A Colorado Springs Wednesday, March 27.
Thu, 21 Feb 2013 13:22:01 -0800 Colorado Rockies manager Walt Weiss is keeping an open mind when it comes to the competition for the starting third base job this spring. 3B Chris Nelson is the favorite for the spot because of his bat as he competes with INFs Jordan Pacheco, DJ LeMahieu and Nolan Arenado. However, Nelson's defense may set him back. Nelson is leaner this spring after doing speed training with Atlanta Braves OF Jason Heyward and Baltimore Orioles OF Xavier Avery in the offseason. "I don't want to feel heavy legs again in spring. I really worked out on it. I am sore, but it's not the heavy sore like before," Nelson said. "I am going out there every day, competing, taking nothing for granted. Sometimes things take longer than you expect because you have to learn along the way."
Wed, 20 Feb 2013 21:57:31 -0800 Colorado Rockies INF DJ LeMahieu is in camp competing, trying to make sure he isn't forgotten after ascending to the starting second base job last season. The team expects to use 2B Josh Rutledge as their starter, since he has more power. "I'm coming in here and competing. You could look at it both ways, but I think I'd be cutting myself short to be just trying to make the team," LeMahieu said Wednesday, Feb. 20.
Wed, 23 Jan 2013 13:48:28 -0800 The Colorado Rockies avoided arbitration with INF Jonathan Herrera Wednesday, Jan. 23, by agreeing to a one-year, $900,000 deal. Herrera isn't a lock to make the roster this spring with INF Josh Rutledge shifting over to second base. INFs Chris Nelson, Jordan Pacheco, DJ LeMahieu and Ryan Wheeler will compete at third base. Herrera may compete directly with LeMahieu for a bench spot.
