Toronto Blue Jays 2B/3B Brett Lawrie (finger) will require a rehab assignment before coming off the disabled list.
Fantasy Tip: His owners will have to be patient. At the keystone in the meantime, it's a mess between Munenori Kawasaki, Ryan Goins and maybe Steven Tolleson.

Toronto Blue Jays SP Aaron Sanchez will be called up Tuesday, July 22, along with INF Ryan Goins and RP Esmil Rogers. Sanchez was recently moved to the bullpen during his brief time at Triple-A Buffalo and probably will serve the same role in the bigs. Goins might not be there long because Steve Tolleson will be on paternity leave. Rogers will serve as a swingman reliever.
Fantasy Tip: Sanchez could be worth an AL-only stash in case he earns a bigger role, but there's not much immediate value here.

The Toronto Blue Jays optioned 2B Ryan Goins to Triple-A Buffalo Monday, April 28.
Fantasy Tip: Jonathan Diaz is the only other infielder currently on the active roster that can play second base. However, the Jays will recall a player from the minors tomorrow, and it could be Chris Getz, Munenori Kawasaki or Steven Tolleson. Stay tuned.

Toronto Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos singled out SP Dustin McGowan and 2B Ryan Goins as two of the team's weak spots during an ESPN podcast Thursday, April 24. McGowan has a 6.88 ERA and a 1.824 WHIP in four starts this season, and he admitted that he's becoming fatigued when he reaches the 60 to 65 pitch range. SPs J.A. Happ and Marcus Stroman are candidates to take McGowan's spot in the rotation if they choose to go that route. Goins has improved the club's overall defense with his leather at the keystone, but his bat isn't endearing him to the GM.
Fantasy Tip: McGowan and Goins are purely AL-only fantasy commodities. Toronto may prefer to give Happ a shot at a rotation spot because of his experience, but Stroman is the better speculative pickup in AL leagues

Toronto Blue Jays 2B Maicer Izturis has started to earn more playing time at second base because of his hot start at the plate. Izturis is batting .455 so far this season. He has been in a platoon with 2B Ryan Goins at second base.

Toronto Blue Jays SS Jose Reyes (hamstring) will undergo an MRI exam on his tight left hamstring, but the team isn't expected to make a roster move Monday, March 31. Manager John Gibbons prefers to keep 2B Ryan Goins at second base if Reyes needs to go on the disabled list.
Fantasy Tip: Be prepared for the possibility that Reyes lands on the DL, since he's such a slow healer. On the active roster, Maicer Izturis is the likely candidate to replace Reyes at the 6, or the team could call up Munenori Kawasaki or Jonathan Diaz.

Toronto Blue Jays SS Jose Reyes (hamstring) left the team's game Monday, March 31, because of a hamstring injury. He was replaced by 2B Ryan Goins.
Fantasy Tip: Reyes has been dealing with this hamstring injury for some time, and it would affect his ability to steal bases if the injury lingers. Goins could fill in for Reyes if Reyes misses time, but Goins likely would be a short-term option in AL-only leagues if Reyes avoids the disabled list.

Toronto Blue Jays manager John Gibbons used the word "official" this time, tabbing 2B Ryan Goins as the starting second baseman Monday, March 24. The team announced INF Munenori Kawasaki, whom Goins beat for the job, will begin the year at Triple-A Buffalo.

Toronto Blue Jays SS Jose Reyes (hamstring) is scheduled to undergo an MRI exam Monday, March 24, on his tight left hamstring. He was initially listed as day-to-day, but the tightness in his leg hasn't gone away. Reyes went on the disabled list twice in 2011 for a similar hamstring injury. If Reyes needs to go on the DL to start the year, the team will likely choose from INFs Chris Getz, Jonathan Diaz or Munenori Kawasaki in a backup role at shortstop behind 2B Ryan Goins, who would move over from second base.
Fantasy Tip: Have a backup plan at SS in place if you own Reyes. It's disturbing that Reyes is already dealing with leg issues, but we'll have to wait to hear the extent of his injury. Check back for more news.

Toronto Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said 2B Ryan Goins has won the competition to be the team's starting second baseman over INF Maicer Izturis. "Goins is our guy right now," Gibbons said. "We want to see him do his thing. There's always a chance. Opening Day is (Tampa Bay's) David Price so maybe you'd rather have a righty facing him, that could always be a possibility. But we're giving Goins every opportunity to be the guy."
Fantasy Tip: The left-handed-hitting Goins is known more for his glove than his bat, so he should only be considered in the later rounds of AL-only fantasy leagues. Izturis is expected to serve as the team's primary utility infielder and also carries little fantasy value.
