Angels | Garrett Richards looking dominant

Tue, 12 May 2015 10:36:25 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Garrett Richards had a no-hitter into the seventh inning in his last start Sunday, May 10, and he has a 2.27 ERA in his first five stats this year, allowing eight earned runs and 18 hits while walking 15 and striking out 29 in 31 2/3 innings. His fastball is touching 95.8 mph, too, which is tied for second-highest among starters. His strikeout-to-walk ratio is just 1.81, though, showing that his command isn't all the way back after coming back from Tommy John surgery.

Fantasy Tip: It's scary to think that Richards ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) can still get better this season once he straightens out his control issues. The high velocity and ability to sustain it deep into games shows that his knee isn't a problem for him at all. Richards is a strong FantasyScore play and should continue to be for all of the season.

Angels | Garrett Richards looking good

Wed, 06 May 2015 11:05:35 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Garrett Richards had a no-decision against the Seattle Mariners Tuesday, May 5, but he gave up just one run in seven innings to drop his ERA to 2.52 through his first four starts. He also went a season-high 113 pitches and has allowed just eight runs (seven earned) in 25 innings in 2015, while allowing 17 hits, 12 walks and 19 strikeouts. His final nine fastballs of the night Tuesday all were 95 mph or above.

Fantasy Tip: Richards ($6,500, 13.0% of cap) looks fully healthy after suffering a gruesome knee injury in 2014 and having surgery. His arm strength looks to be in great shape, too. Consider him a fine starting pitching candidate for your daily lineups each time he toes the rubber.

Angels | Garrett Richards took shutout into 7th

Thu, 30 Apr 2015 17:14:25 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Garrett Richards took a shutout into the seventh inning Thursday, April 30, against the Oakland Athletics. Richards completed six full innings, allowing four hits, three walks and one earned run, while striking out five hitters, to pick up the win.

Fantasy Tip: Richards ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) has been benefiting from a .212 BABIP but was hit around a little bit Thursday. Richards' strikeout rate is down this season while his walk rate has risen from last year. As these two figures start normalizing, Richards should be in line for more impressive outings. He's a quality buy-low option if he can be had for the right price.

Angels | Garrett Richards shaky in debut

Sun, 19 Apr 2015 20:30:54 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Garrett Richards (knee) made his season debut Sunday, April 19, allowing five hits, three earned runs and four walks while striking out four in five innings in a loss to the Houston Astros.

Fantasy Tip: Richards ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) struggled with his command and reached 100 pitches in just five innings. Expect some rust as he returns from a serious knee injury, and in the meantime, it is best to avoid Richards at FantasyScore until he looks like an ace on the mound again.

Angels | Garrett Richards to debut Sunday

Sat, 18 Apr 2015 14:07:26 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Garrett Richards (knee) will make his season debut Sunday, April 19, against the Houston Astros.

Fantasy Tip: Richards ($6,300, 12.6% of your cap) has a good matchup, but it's hard to drop that much of your FantasyScore cap on a player's first start in eight months.

Angels | Halos undecided on Garrett Richards

Wed, 15 Apr 2015 10:22:30 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Garrett Richards (knee) allowed five runs on seven hits while walking four in six innings for Triple-A Salt Lake Tuesday, April 14, in what was believed to be his final rehab start. However, the Angels will meet with Richards Wednesday, April 15, before deciding if he'll make his season debut against the Houston Astros Sunday, April 19.

Fantasy Tip: Holding Richards ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) out for his first start at FantasyScore is probably the safe move, especially when looking at his numbers in his final rehab start. However, the matchup against the strikeout-prone Astros is tempting, if he winds up starting Sunday.

Angels | Garrett Richards to debut Sunday?

Tue, 14 Apr 2015 15:32:32 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Garrett Richards (knee) is scheduled to make his season debut against the Houston Astros Sunday, April 19, if everything goes well with his final rehab start for Triple-A Salt Lake Tuesday, April 14. That would push SP Matt Shoemaker to six days of rest for Monday, April 20, and SP Hector Santiago to five days of rest for Tuesday, April 21.

Fantasy Tip: Richards ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) looked good all spring and hasn't had any setbacks after having surgery on his knee last year. Despite making his first start Sunday, Richards will be attractive to FantasyScore users against an Astros squad that strikes out in bunches and hasn't gotten it going offensively in 2015 yet.

Angels | Garrett Richards may return soon

Mon, 13 Apr 2015 15:58:44 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Garrett Richards (knee) could join the team after his rehab start with Triple-A Salt Lake Tuesday, April 14, according to manager Mike Scioscia.

Fantasy Tip: Richards ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) could rejoin the starting rotation at some point next week if he does not have any setbacks. He likely will be on a pitch count initially, so owners on FantasyScore may want to see how he does in a start or two before considering him.

Angels | Garrett Richards makes rehab outing

Thu, 09 Apr 2015 15:29:11 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Garrett Richards (knee) allowed four hits and two runs while walking three and striking out 12 in seven innings in a minor league intrasquad game Thursday, April 9. He's likely to make his next rehab start at Triple-A Salt Lake Tuesday, April 14.

Fantasy Tip: Richards ($7,100, 14.2% of cap) is nearing his return to the major leagues after a stellar 2014 season that was cut short by an ugly knee injury. Richards looked great all spring and hasn't had any setbacks. It's safe to say that he'll be a solid FantasyScore option immediately when he returns.

Angels | Garrett Richards to rehab Thursday

Mon, 06 Apr 2015 22:11:41 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Garrett Richards (knee) will work in an extended spring training game Thursday, April 9, as he continues his rehab from a knee injury suffered last August.

Fantasy Tip: Richards remains on target to return, but FantasyScore owners will want to avoid him at $7,100 (or 14.2% of cap) until he can officially return and prove his health in a full start or two without any setbacks.
