Indians | Surgery not an option for Jason Kipnis

Tue, 04 Aug 2015 11:05:13 -0700

Cleveland Indians 2B Jason Kipnis (shoulder) isn't considering surgery for his injured and swollen shoulder, according to general manager Chris Antonetti. Kipnis also received a cortisone shot to relieve swelling in his shoulder.

Fantasy Tip: Kipnis must be held in all formats, as it might be too long before he's back. Jose Ramirez ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) will see the majority of time at the keystone in Kipnis' absence. Consider him a low-end FantasyScore option in the short term.

Indians | Jason Kipnis placed on disabled list

Mon, 03 Aug 2015 15:32:30 -0700

Cleveland Indians 2B Jason Kipnis (shoulder) was placed on the disabled list with a sore right shoulder Monday, Aug. 3. In a corresponding move, SS Jose Ramirez was recalled from Class AAA Columbus.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to stash Kipnis ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) in all fantasy formats and check back for updates on his recovery and for a return timeline. Mike Aviles ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) and Ramirez ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) project to see the majority of starts at second base while Kipnis is out. Neither has anything more than fleeting seasonal value in cavernous mixed and AL-only formats, though.

Indians | Jason Kipnis stays hot at home

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 18:11:07 -0700

Cleveland Indians 2B Jason Kipnis went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI Wednesday, July 29, against the Kansas City Royals. It was his third three-hit game of the three-game series.

Fantasy Tip: Kipnis ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) is hitting a robust .376 at home this season, posting 20 doubles, four triples, four home runs and 23 RBI with an OPS well over 1.000. Unfortunately, the Indians hit the road for six games, but he is still hitting a respectable .291 with a .749 OPS on the road. FantasyScore owners have been loving him lately.

Indians | Mike Aviles starting at 2B

Tue, 28 Jul 2015 16:10:14 -0700

Cleveland Indians SS Mike Aviles is starting at second base and hitting ninth against Kansas City Royals SP Chris D. Young Tuesday, July 28. 2B Jason Kipnis is serving as the designated hitter after the team traded OF David Murphy prior to the game.

Fantasy Tip: Aviles ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) doesn't have much appeal in daily games while hitting near the bottom of the batting order. However, he could see more playing time for the Indians after the departure of Murphy. Take note in deep mixed leagues if you need depth or a dual-position threat.

Sat, 25 Jul 2015 13:57:53 -0700

Cleveland Indians 2B Jason Kipnis is out of the lineup Saturday, July 25, with 2B Mike Aviles leading off.

Fantasy Tip: Aviles ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) is 3-for-19 (.158) lifetime against Chris Sale and is only hitting .242 against lefties this year. Look elsewhere on FantasyScore.

Indians | Jason Kipnis faded in first half

Mon, 13 Jul 2015 16:19:59 -0700

Cleveland Indians 2B Jason Kipnis went 12-for-57 over his last 15 games before the All-Star break. Kipnis still entered Monday, July 13, tied for the American League lead with 27 doubles, third in hits, sixth in runs scored and sixth in extra-base hits.

Fantasy Tip: Kipnis did enter the breakout with an absurd .369 BABIP - that is 50 points above his career average - and an ISO that is 20 points above his norm. While Kipnis has an outside shot at a 20/20 season, his owners may want to sell high before the batting average dips.
