Indians | Michael Bourn sitting Monday

Mon, 20 Apr 2015 13:42:38 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Michael Bourn is not in the starting lineup Monday, April 20. SS Mike Aviles is starting in center field and hitting second in the batting order against Chicago White Sox SP John Danks. 2B Jason Kipnis moves up to the leadoff spot Monday as a result.

Fantasy Tip: Aviles ($2,000, 4.0% of cap), who has one home run in 22 at-bats to begin the year, becomes an attractive FantasyScore option at shortstop in order to save money for the rest of your lineup. Danks has struggled in the early going in 2015, and the southpaw allowed righties to hit .275 with 22 of his 25 home runs allowed in 2014.

Indians | Jason Kipnis back to 2013 form?

Tue, 31 Mar 2015 11:13:37 -0700

Cleveland Indians 2B Jason Kipnis appears to be back to top form this spring, according to hitting coach Ty Van Burkleo. Kipnis' oblique injury last summer kept him from being successful at the plate last season. He was unable to get the extension on his swing that he did prior to the injury, and pitchers were able to take advantage of him with outside offerings. "He was guarding that (oblique) area," Van Burkleo said, "and it was causing him to just kind of sweep through balls and kind of cast them out and pull them. ... Now, he's actually able to stay on the ball and drive through it. And that's his real strength. When he's driving the ball to all fields, that's when you see the real Jason Kipnis."

Fantasy Tip: Kipnis ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) looks to be past his finger issue from the offseason, and his power has returned this spring. That's a great sign as he looks to rebound in 2015, and you should look to take advantage of his value after a disappointing 2013 campaign.

Indians | Jason Kipnis returns

Thu, 26 Mar 2015 13:59:38 -0700

Cleveland Indians 2B Jason Kipnis (back) returned to the lineup Thursday, March 26, after he missed the previous seven games with a back issue.

Fantasy Tip: Continue to check back for updates on Kipnis ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) leading up to opening day. He is an intriguing fantasy commodity with five-category upside and plays a position which lacks high-end talent. Still, the injuries have followed Kipnis around over the past season, so health is a concern. Prior to the back spasms, Kipnis was a popular bounce-back candidate, and as long as there are no lingering back issues, he remains an upside pick in the middle rounds. Take a wait-and-see approach in FantasyScore contests, as Kipnis' price is steep.
