Sat, 20 Apr 2013 12:13:05 -0700 Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard (groin) remains out of the starting lineup Saturday, April 20, against the St. Louis Cardinals. OF/1B John Mayberry Jr. will play first base, INF/OF Freddy Galvis will play left field and OF Domonic Brown (back) will play right field.
Thu, 18 Apr 2013 17:10:14 -0700 Philadelphia Phillies OF Domonic Brown (back) is sitting out Thursday, April 18, after tweaking his back Wednesday, April 17. X-rays were negative, and he's hoping to return Friday, April 19. Fantasy Tip: Make sure to check to see if Brown is indeed back in the lineup before confidently re-inserting him into your lineup.
Thu, 18 Apr 2013 16:27:27 -0700 Philadelphia Phillies OF Ben Revere has been dropped from the leadoff spot to seventh, SS Jimmy Rollins has moved into the top spot, and INF Freddy Galvis is batting second on Thursday, April 18, against the St. Louis Cardinals. Manager Charlie Manuel is hoping to jump-start an offense that has scored only nine runs in its last five games. "I want to see if I can relax him a little bit and get him going," Manuel said. "To me, our lineup is never set. It's not that he's not going to be back in the leadoff spot some time or hitting second. … I think he has been pressing too much." Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners should've expected the possibility of shakeups like this. Hopefully, the moves help to get Revere going. He should still opportunities to run -- as long as he gets on base -- since Manuel didn't drop to the eighth spot. It's not yet clear how serious Brown's injury is or whether the Phils would continue to play Galvin in left if Brown missed extended time. Delmon Young (ankle) may factor in here in the next couple of weeks.
Wed, 17 Apr 2013 20:35:51 -0700 Philadelphia Phillies OF Domonic Brown (back) left the game Wednesday, April 17, against the Cincinnati Reds due to a mid-back injury. Brown will visit with the team doctor Thursday, April 18.
Tue, 19 Mar 2013 14:16:03 -0700 Philadelphia Phillies OF Domonic Brown clubbed his sixth spring homer Tuesday, March 19, tying him for the major league lead. His slugging percentage sits at .714, and he's showing excellent power that could earn him the fifth spot in the lineup behind 1B Ryan Howard this year. Manager Charlie Manuel believes Brown can hit in that spot and be successful. Fantasy Tip: Brown really worked on his mechanics at the plate in the offseason and has shown a much quieter swing and stance this spring. This post-hype prospect a buy-low candidate that could return some serious profit as a late-round investment.
Fri, 08 Mar 2013 14:37:13 -0800 Philadelphia Phillies OF Domonic Brown (hand) had his hand stepped on while sliding back to first base Friday, March 8, after singling twice off Tampa Bay Rays SP David Price. Brown stayed in the game, though. Manager Charlie Manuel said Brown has been "the biggest bright spot" this spring.
Wed, 06 Mar 2013 07:33:28 -0800 Philadelphia Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said OF Delmon Young (ankle) will only play right field when he returns. OF Domonic Brown will play left field.
Thu, 28 Feb 2013 12:53:51 -0800 Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard is in the spring lineup for the sixth straight day Thursday, Feb. 28, and he finished 2-for-3 with an opposite-field home run off Atlanta Braves RP Craig Kimbrel. OFs Domonic Brown, John Mayberry Jr. and INF Kevin Frandsen have also appeared in every spring game so far. Howard wants to get his "game legs" under him, and he's 4-for-6 against left-handers with two doubles.
Wed, 27 Feb 2013 15:07:02 -0800 Philadelphia Phillies OF Domonic Brown has been clicking with new assistant hitting coach Wally Joyner this spring. Both Brown and Joyner attended the same high school, and the two began working together in early February. Brown made changes to how he grips the bat; at times, he would wrap his hands and wrists around the bat. "We straightened his hands out a little bit, allowing his wrists to cock," Joyner said. "He's a big boy. He looks great. We want to take advantage of that size and leverage. That's one of the assets that Ryan Howard has. And he uses it. He has a lot of leverage. He stays behind it." The adjustments have been paying off for Brown so far in spring training.
Tue, 26 Feb 2013 10:42:52 -0800 Philadelphia Phillies OF Domonic Brown has been impressing manager Charlie Manuel this spring, and Brown hit a towering pinch-hit home run Sunday, Feb. 24. "The last three days he's been swinging good," Manuel said. "Big power and he shows it." Manuel has noted some improvements to Brown's swing.
