Phillies | Domonic Brown scorching hot

Tue, 04 Jun 2013 10:17:55 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Domonic Brown has nine homers in his last 10 games after he was hitting only .242 with a .702 OPS two weeks ago. He's now hitting .291 with a .921 OPS and more home runs than anyone in the National League. Brown hit 12 home runs in May without drawing a single walk and striking out 21 times. Through this April in his career, Brown had swung at 46.2 percent of the pitches he saw. In May, he swung at 55.9 percent of pitches and drew zero walks. Brown's walk rate is currently at only 5 percent. Only two of 127 players to hit 30 home runs over the last five seasons have had a walk rate at or below 5 percent - Baltimore Orioles OF Adam Jones and Texas Rangers 3B Adrian Beltre.

Fantasy Tip: Brown's torrid home run pace won't last forever, as Dave Schoenfield's column suggests, but Brown may finally become the hitting prospect that everyone pegged him to be with a more aggressive approach at the plate. At 25, Brown is maturing as a hitter, and the mechanical changes he made this spring to shorten his swing are paying off. You probably missed your window to add him, though. If he's still floating out there in a shallow league, what are you waiting for?

Phillies | Domonic Brown headed for prominent role in lineup

Tue, 28 May 2013 14:35:00 -0700

After being named the Player of the Week, Philadelphia Phillies OF Domonic Brown may be headed toward a more prominent role in the team's lineup. "He'll let me know when it's time for him to move," manager Charlie Manuel said. "He's headed that way. Really, I mean that. I've developed a lot of players through the minor leagues and big leagues. I've had some of the best players who have ever been in baseball. They'll usually let you know where they're going to hit."

Fantasy Tip: Brown has really turned it on this month, and he should be owned in most mixed leagues now that he appears to be very confident and swinging the stick well. A move up in the lineup could mean even more success for the lefty swinger.

Phillies | Ben Revere dropped, Jimmy Rollins bumped up, Freddy Galvis in

Thu, 18 Apr 2013 16:27:27 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Ben Revere has been dropped from the leadoff spot to seventh, SS Jimmy Rollins has moved into the top spot, and INF Freddy Galvis is batting second on Thursday, April 18, against the St. Louis Cardinals. Manager Charlie Manuel is hoping to jump-start an offense that has scored only nine runs in its last five games. "I want to see if I can relax him a little bit and get him going," Manuel said. "To me, our lineup is never set. It's not that he's not going to be back in the leadoff spot some time or hitting second. … I think he has been pressing too much."

Galvis is filling in for OF Domonic Brown (back) in left field. The idea of having switch hitters in the top two positions appealed to Manuel. Galvis (.333) entered play on Thursday as one of only two Phils with averages above .300. The other is 3B Michael Young (.346).

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners should've expected the possibility of shakeups like this. Hopefully, the moves help to get Revere going. He should still opportunities to run -- as long as he gets on base -- since Manuel didn't drop to the eighth spot. It's not yet clear how serious Brown's injury is or whether the Phils would continue to play Galvin in left if Brown missed extended time. Delmon Young (ankle) may factor in here in the next couple of weeks.

Phillies | Domonic Brown in line for breakout?

Tue, 19 Mar 2013 14:16:03 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Domonic Brown clubbed his sixth spring homer Tuesday, March 19, tying him for the major league lead. His slugging percentage sits at .714, and he's showing excellent power that could earn him the fifth spot in the lineup behind 1B Ryan Howard this year. Manager Charlie Manuel believes Brown can hit in that spot and be successful.

Fantasy Tip: Brown really worked on his mechanics at the plate in the offseason and has shown a much quieter swing and stance this spring. This post-hype prospect a buy-low candidate that could return some serious profit as a late-round investment.
