Rockies | Mark Reynolds says he still has power

Thu, 17 Dec 2015 09:10:30 -0800

Colorado Rockies 1B Mark Reynolds said he can be a 30-homer player again if he receives regular playing time. "My power hasn't gone anywhere," said Reynolds, who finalized a one-year, $2.6 million deal Wednesday, Dec. 16. "Just playing time has gone down. That's why my home runs are down." Reynolds hasn't hit 30 homers in a season since 2011, but he's a lifetime .287 hitter in Denver. He's expected to compete at first base with 1B Ben Paulsen, and Reynolds can also spell 3B Nolan Arenado at third base occasionally. Reynolds could also play some outfield. He can make an extra $100,000 for 100 plate appearances, $200,000 each for 200 and 300 and $300,000 each for 400 and 500.

Fantasy Tip: Reynolds had just 13 home runs and 48 RBI with the St. Louis Cardinals in 140 games last year. Busch stadium is known as a pitcher's park, though, and the move to Coors Field should definitely help Reynolds' power stroke. However, he's not going to help you in average and it would be foolish to bank on a return to the 30-homer mark even with regular playing time. Reynolds isn't a bad stab in deep mixed and NL-only leagues for some power, though.

Rockies | Charlie Blackmon resting Saturday

Sat, 03 Oct 2015 10:57:08 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Charlie Blackmon is not in the starting lineup against San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy Saturday, Oct. 3. OF Corey Dickerson will play center field and bat second Saturday, while OF Ben Paulsen will play left field and hit seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Dickerson ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) is batting .286 with four home runs and 10 RBIs since Sept. 1, and is hitting .304 against San Francisco this year, making him a decent FantasyScore option today. Paulsen ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) is batting just .224 over the same time period, and isn't a great choice for daily lineups.

Rockies | Justin Morneau out against lefty

Wed, 16 Sep 2015 16:44:48 -0700

Colorado Rockies 1B Justin Morneau is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, Sept. 16. 1B Ben Paulsen is starting at first base and batting seventh against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Alex Wood Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Morneau ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) is 8-for-30 since returning from a lengthy absence with a concussion. He is a low-end option through the end of the season, but could be worth a sneaky add in seasonal leagues when the Rockies have home games at hitter-friendly Coors Field. Paulsen ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) owns a .508 OPS against lefties this season, and he is nothing more than a dice roll at FantasyScore Wednesday.

Rockies | Justin Morneau resting up

Thu, 10 Sep 2015 10:49:38 -0700

Colorado Rockies 1B Justin Morneau is not in the starting lineup Thursday, Sept. 10. 1B Ben Paulsen is starting at first base and is hitting sixth against San Diego Padres SP Tyson Ross.

Fantasy Tip: Paulsen ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) makes for a very intriguing value pick on FantasyScore this afternoon. He is hitting .283 (77-for-272) with all 10 of his long balls against right-handed pitchers this season.

Rockies | Ben Paulsen not in the lineup

Mon, 07 Sep 2015 12:21:34 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Ben Paulsen is not in the starting lineup against San Diego Padres SP Ian Kennedy Monday, Sept. 7. OF Kyle Parker will start in left field and is batting fifth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Paulsen ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) probably will return to the lineup in the near future. Parker ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) is hitting only .091 over the last seven games and may be passed over on FantasyScore.

Rockies | Wilin Rosario draws a start

Tue, 01 Sep 2015 10:46:47 -0700

Colorado Rockies C Wilin Rosario is starting at first base and hitting cleanup against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Patrick Corbin in the first game of a doubleheader Tuesday, Sept. 1. 1B Ben Paulsen will start on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: Rosario was called up as rosters expanded Tuesday, and he could see valuable time at first base down the stretch. Give him a look in NL-only and very deep mixed leagues if he sees enough at-bats. Unfortunately for those looking for a bargain on FantasyScore, the first game of the double dip won't count.

Rockies | Ben Paulsen not in the lineup

Mon, 31 Aug 2015 14:58:59 -0700

Colorado Rockies 1B Ben Paulsen is not in the starting lineup against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Robbie Ray Monday, Aug. 31. 1B Matt McBride will start at first base and is batting seventh in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Paulsen ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) likely is out of the lineup because the team is facing a left-handed pitcher. McBride ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is hitting only .176 this season and should not be a fantasy option.

Rockies | Matt McBride starting vs. Pirates

Fri, 28 Aug 2015 12:59:02 -0700

Colorado Rockies 1B Matt McBride is starting at first base and batting sixth against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Francisco Liriano Friday, Aug. 28. 1B Ben Paulsen is not in the starting lineup Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Paulsen ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) rarely plays against lefties, so McBride ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) draws in to face the potentially daunting Liriano ($7,500, 15.0% of cap). FantasyScore players will be able to stack their lineups around McBride, but he is nothing more than a dice roll. After all, he doesn't have an extra base hit or RBI yet this season.

Rockies | Ben Paulsen returns to lineup

Sun, 23 Aug 2015 11:13:14 -0700

Colorado Rockies 1B Ben Paulsen is back in the starting lineup against New York Mets SP Logan Verrett Sunday, Aug. 23, batting fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Paulsen ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) did not start Saturday, Aug. 22, because the Rockies were facing left-handed SP Jon Niese. He is batting .285 against right-handed pitching and is hitting .319 with six home runs and 16 RBIs in 94 at-bats during day games, making this a favorable matchup for him in FantasyScore.

Rockies | Ben Paulsen out of lineup

Thu, 13 Aug 2015 09:05:07 -0700

Colorado Rockies 1B Ben Paulsen is not in the starting lineup Thursday, Aug. 13. 1B Matt McBride is starting at first base and hitting fifth against New York Mets SP Noah Syndergaard.

Fantasy Tip: McBride is a FantasyScore afterthought and should be avoided everywhere, especially against the young pitching phenom Syndergaard, who has been much better at Citi Field this year.
