St. Louis Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright (5-2) tossed a two-hit shutout against the Colorado Rockies Saturday, May 11, with one walk and seven strikeouts. It was his second shutout of the season and the sixth of his career. Wainwright carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning but it was broken up by a one-out single from 3B Nolan Arenado.

The Colorado Rockies have recalled 3B Nolan Arenado from Triple-A Colorado Springs. In a corresponding move, INF Chris Nelson has been designated for assignment.

Fantasy Tip: Arenado will become the Rockies' starter at the hot corner. He was batting .364 with three home runs and 21 RBIs at Colorado Springs.

The Colorado Rockies are reportedly giving strong consideration to using 3B Nolan Arenado as their starting third baseman for opening day. The team will likely wait another seven to 10 days before deciding between Arenado or incumbent 3B Chris Nelson, but the team is giving it serious thought, according to major league sources.

Fantasy Tip: Arenado is an intriguing fantasy option worthy of a middle-round pick in NL-only fantasy leagues, and a late-round pick in mixed formats right now. If he wins the job, his power could be huge in Coors Field.

Colorado Rockies manager Walt Weiss is keeping an open mind when it comes to the competition for the starting third base job this spring. 3B Chris Nelson is the favorite for the spot because of his bat as he competes with INFs Jordan Pacheco, DJ LeMahieu and Nolan Arenado. However, Nelson's defense may set him back. Nelson is leaner this spring after doing speed training with Atlanta Braves OF Jason Heyward and Baltimore Orioles OF Xavier Avery in the offseason. "I don't want to feel heavy legs again in spring. I really worked out on it. I am sore, but it's not the heavy sore like before," Nelson said. "I am going out there every day, competing, taking nothing for granted. Sometimes things take longer than you expect because you have to learn along the way."
