Red Sox | Jose Iglesias not playing

Tue, 07 May 2013 14:58:51 -0700

Boston Red Sox SS Jose Iglesias has missed the last two games for Triple-A Pawtucket due to non-injury reasons, but the team is being vague about his absence. "In the reports from the Triple-A staff, they felt it was best he needed a couple days to regroup, kind of get back to what has allowed him to be a very good player," manager John Farrell said. "He's experienced success. He's dealing with some things." Iglesias is hitting just .235 (16-for-68) with two doubles, three home runs and a .278 on-base percentage in 19 minor league games.

Red Sox | Jose Iglesias likely to be sent down

Mon, 08 Apr 2013 11:25:46 -0700

Boston Red Sox SS Jose Iglesias is likely to be sent down to Triple-A Pawtucket when SS Stephen Drew (concussion) is activated from the disabled list Wednesday, April 10. However, Iglesias proved that he is worthy of filling in at shortstop with his play to open the season, and the coaching staff was impressed. Iglesias has one minor league option remaining.

Fantasy Tip: Iglesias is only worth hanging onto in deep AL-only leagues, but if Drew has any kind of setback and is sidelined again, expect Iglesias to be called upon again.

Red Sox | Jose Iglesias not in lineup Saturday

Sat, 06 Apr 2013 09:11:43 -0700

Boston Red Sox SS Jose Iglesias (forearm) is not in the starting lineup Saturday, April 6, but took batting practice and expressed confidence that he could return to action Sunday, April 7. "It feels tight, but I'll be all right," Iglesias said. "If the team needs me, I'll be there. You want to be there. You want to be part of another win. All I can do is get treatment and be ready for today and tomorrow."

Fantasy Tip: Manager John Farrell was scheduled to give Iglesias the day off even before he bruised his forearm. INF Pedro Ciriaco will get his first start of the season at shortstop Saturday.

Red Sox | Jose Iglesias leaving game

Fri, 05 Apr 2013 17:08:44 -0700

Boston Red Sox SS Jose Iglesias (arm) is leaving the game in the fourth inning after being hit by a pitch Friday, April 5. 3B Pedro Ciriaco is replacing him.

Fantasy Tip: The good news for Boston is that Stephen Drew (concussion) could return to the lineup as early as Monday, April 8. If Iglesias is unable to play this weekend, Ciriaco should continue to fill in for him. He's only a candidate for ownership in deep AL leagues.

Red Sox | Stephen Drew will start when ready

Tue, 02 Apr 2013 14:38:11 -0700

Boston Red Sox SS Stephen Drew (concussion) is eligible to return from the seven-day disabled list Wednesday, April 10, and he'll have his starting job back when he's ready. SS Jose Iglesias will fill in until then.

Fantasy Tip: This shouldn't come as a surprise. Iglesias is just a fill-in until Drew returns, and Boston will probably send him to the minors when Drew is ready so that he can work on his offense.

Red Sox | Stephen Drew unlikely to be ready

Thu, 21 Mar 2013 13:30:32 -0700

Boston Red Sox SS Stephen Drew (concussion) is unlikely to be ready by opening day, which means SS Jose Iglesias would start in his place.

Fantasy Tip: Iglesias is a decent target in extremely deep leagues because of the uncertainty on when Drew will be able to return and play at a high level. Drew's slow-healing ways and the delicacy of concussion injuries bolster Iglesias' allure.
