Yankees | Aroldis Chapman throws off mound

Tue, 12 Apr 2016 23:50:21 -0700

New York Yankees RP Aroldis Chapman threw from a mound Monday, April 11, and is expected to pitch in an extended spring game this week. He is serving a 30-game suspension under baseball's new domestic violence policy. He was able to field and do conditioning drills at the team's complex in Tampa Tuesday, April 12.

Fantasy Tip: Chapman will be back in the next few weeks and he'll be a top-notch fantasy option once he assumes the closer role on a full-time basis.

Yankees | Aroldis Chapman shaky Thursday

Thu, 10 Mar 2016 11:55:41 -0800

New York Yankees RP Aroldis Chapman was shaky in his first spring appearance Thursday, March 10, and he couldn't even get out of his inning of work. He walked in a run and hit two batters to load the bases with one out. However, he was reaching 98 mph on the radar gun.

Fantasy Tip: Remember, Chapman will start the year with a 30-game suspension for a domestic-violence incident in the offseason. As long as you plan for his early season absence, Chapman still profiles as a top-three fantasy fireman.

Yankees | Aroldis Chapman back May 9

Wed, 02 Mar 2016 06:44:46 -0800

Updating previous reports, New York Yankees RP Aroldis Chapman will be eligible to return May 9 against the Kansas City Royals after serving his 30-game suspension, WFAN's Sweeny Murti said on MLB Network's "Hot Stove." If the team experiences rainouts, he'll still be eligible to return that day. He'll be able to pitch in spring training and extended spring games after the season begins.

Fantasy Tip: Chapman missed time due to injury in 2014 and still had 36 saves, a 2.00 ERA, a 0.83 WHIP and 106 K's in 54 innings. Chapman remains one of the high-end relievers in fantasy despite his 30-game suspension.

Yankees | Aroldis Chapman suspended 30 games

Tue, 01 Mar 2016 13:02:42 -0800

New York Yankees RP Aroldis Chapman has been suspended for 30 games by Major League Baseball. Chapman does not plan to appeal, saying he did not harm his girlfriend.

MLB | Suspensions could be handed down Tuesday

Tue, 01 Mar 2016 09:04:34 -0800

The cases involving New York Yankees RP Aroldis Chapman, Colorado Rockies SS Jose Reyes and Los Angeles Dodgers OF Yasiel Puig could have a ruling as soon as Tuesday, March 1, according to ESPN.com's Pedro Gomez.

Fantasy Tip: Reyes was the only one of the three that was actually charged in his domestic violence case, so he figures to receive the lengthiest suspension. Keep an eye on what happens this week. Chapman will probably still be a top-three fantasy closer despite the threat of missed time. Puig's price has fallen because of injuries last year, but he's a risk/reward player worth gambling on in the middle rounds.

Yankees | Aroldis Chapman's fate undecided

Fri, 26 Feb 2016 15:20:08 -0800

New York Yankees RP Aroldis Chapman's fate on a potential suspension for a domestic-violence incident may not be decided before Opening Day if he appeals a suspension and the players' union files a grievance, union chief Tony Clark said Friday, Feb. 26. Chapman already plans to appeal no matter what discipline is imposed by MLB.

Fantasy Tip: Chapman wasn't charged in his domestic incident this offseason, so he would figure to have a minimal suspension in a worst-case scenario. It's a fluid situation until we know more, but Chapman should still be viewed as a top-three fantasy closer. Dellin Betances or Andrew Miller could rack up some saves if Chapman is suspended at all in 2016.

Yankees | Aroldis Chapman discipline stipulation

Tue, 23 Feb 2016 15:16:06 -0800

New York Yankees RP Aroldis Chapman's potential suspension under baseball's new domestic violence policy would only include regular-season games, according to a person familiar with the matter but not authorized to discuss it. Under the domestic violence policy, suspensions are left to the discretion of the commissioner. If he is indeed suspended, Chapman has already stated he would appeal.

Fantasy Tip: It was originally reported that the potential suspension could include spring training games, so this is an important development. Regardless, this impending decision shouldn't have too much of an impact over Chapman's value heading into 2016, as the possible ban wouldn't be long at all. He's still in a nice position to be one of the league's elite closers for the upcoming campaign.

Yankees | Aroldis Chapman excused from camp Monday

Mon, 22 Feb 2016 12:11:45 -0800

New York Yankees RP Aroldis Chapman was excused from camp Monday, Feb. 22, according to general manager Brian Cashman. "We knew he would not be here today," Cashman said. "He asked permission, we provided it, and you'll see him again (Tuesday)."

Fantasy Tip: Chapman still has a potential suspension looming over his head, which adds a slight risk to his fantasy stock. However, he'll produce as a top-tier closer when eligible and should be selected among the first relievers off the board on draft day.
