Mets | Jenrry Mejia suspended 80 games

Sat, 11 Apr 2015 14:50:38 -0700

New York Mets RP Jenrry Mejia has been suspended 80 games for testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug.

Fantasy Tip: Mejia was placed on the 15-day disabled list earlier in the week and will now miss a few months because of the suspension. Jeurys Familia could be the leading candidate for the closer role with Mejia out, and owners should consider adding him if he is available. Owners may want to stash Mejia on their bench if case he regains the closer role when he returns.

Mets | Closer role could become fluid for Mets

Wed, 08 Apr 2015 14:10:09 -0700

New York Mets RP Jeurys Familia is the front-runner to close games with RP Jenrry Mejia (elbow) headed to the disabled list, according to manager Terry Collins. However, Collins noted he may piece it together and use left-handed RP Jerry Blevins or another southpaw depending on matchups.

Fantasy Tip: Familia is a must-add arm, and for those desperate for saves, Blevins and even Buddy Carlyle -- who recorded the save in the last outing -- could be worth speculative adds. Bobby Parnell (elbow) is also working his way back and is expected to return to the closer role when healthy. All said, the Mets bullpen projects to have all the makings of a committee.

Mets | Jenrry Mejia shut down for 10 days

Tue, 07 Apr 2015 14:02:05 -0700

Updating previous reports, New York Mets RP Jenrry Mejia (elbow), who was placed on the disabled list Tuesday, April 7, will be shut down for at least 10 days after being diagnosed with posterior elbow inflammation in his right arm. Closing duties in the meantime will likely fall to RP Jeurys Familia. Familia pitched a perfect eighth inning Monday, April 6, and his fastball hit 98 mph.

Fantasy Tip: Familia will be a popular waiver wire acquisition this week for those in need of saves in the early going. Because of the notable injury history for Mejia, Familia's stay in the closer role could be extended.

Mets | Jenrry Mejia lands on DL

Tue, 07 Apr 2015 13:19:41 -0700

New York Mets RP Jenrry Mejia (elbow) was placed on the disabled list Tuesday, April 7, after having stiffness and pain in his right elbow Monday, April 6. X-rays and an MRI exam came back negative, though, and he received a cortisone injection. His DL stint has been backdated to Sunday, April 5. RP Jeurys Familia is expected to serve as the closer with Mejia out, with RP Carlos Torres as the main setup man.

Fantasy Tip: Saves seekers need to quickly run to the waiver wire to put in a claim on Familia, even if it's for the short term. Mejia has a history of arm problems, and he may struggle upon his return.

Mets | Jenrry Mejia may avoid DL

Tue, 07 Apr 2015 11:07:16 -0700

Updating previous reports, New York Mets RP Jenrry Mejia (elbow) has significant swelling in his right triceps, but there is some thought he may not need a disabled list stint.

Fantasy Tip: It's possible that the cortisone injection could remedy the issue, but there doesn't seem like valid reasoning to risk it when it would save him about a week of DL time. Jeurys Familia is expected to close games in the interim and should be picked up universally.

Mets | No structural damage for Jenrry Mejia

Tue, 07 Apr 2015 10:27:46 -0700

New York Mets RP Jenrry Mejia (elbow) has no structural damage after undergoing an MRI exam. He's dealing with inflammation and will receive a cortisone shot.

Fantasy Tip: It's great news for Mejia owners, but he may not be out of the woods just yet. Keep an eye on his progress this week. In the meantime, Jeurys Familia is expected to be the next man up in the ninth despite the fact that Buddy Carlyle recorded the save on opening day. Run to the waiver wire and add Familia immediately if you're looking for saves in the short term.

Mets | Jenrry Mejia deemed unavailable

Mon, 06 Apr 2015 15:47:52 -0700

New York Mets RP Jenrry Mejia (elbow) was rendered unavailable Monday, April 6, due to elbow tightness.

Fantasy Tip: In his absence, Buddy Carlyle recorded the save over the Washington Nationals. Once Bobby Parnell (elbow) returns and is added to the mix, the Mets bullpen could be nightly guessing game. Still, expect Carlyle to garner attention from the save vultures, and Mejia is worth holding as a speculative save candidate. Continue to monitor the ninth-inning situation for the Mets to see if someone elevates themselves into the saves front-runner.

Mets | Jeurys Familia, Vic Black could close

Tue, 17 Feb 2015 14:32:02 -0800

New York Mets RPs Jeurys Familia and Vic Black, along with RP Jenrry Mejia, will be given chances to close out games in spring training, according to manager Terry Collins. RP Bobby Parnell (elbow) is expected to return in May after recovering from Tommy John surgery.

Fantasy Tip: While Familia and Black could get some play in the ninth inning this spring, Mejia is expected to be the main ninth-inning man when the calendar flips to April, and until Parnell returns. Familia and Black are bullpen arms that should only be considered as dollar investments in NL-only leagues if you're scrounging for saves.
