New York Yankees SP Manny Banuelos was reassigned to the team's minor league camp Friday, March 16. He struggled during camp, and manager Joe Girardi said earlier this week that Banuelos couldn't control his pitches well enough in his last Grapefruit League appearance.

"He couldn't throw his secondary pitches for strikes, and he was behind. It's just a tough combination," manager Joe Girardi said. "Manny just really struggled with his command."

New York Yankees P Manny Banuelos turned heads last spring, and he looked good again Friday, March 9. Banuelos had his fastball clocked in the mid-90s, and he mixed offspeed pitches without walking anyone. He struck out three batters in two scoreless innings. "I think he battled some nerves the first time out," C Russell Martin said. "He looked like he was a little erratic. This time out, he was just pitching. Powering his fastball, downward plane, and he looked like he just had more control of all his pitches. So I think as we progress here, he's just going to sharpen up."

New York Yankees SP Manny Banuelos said he needs to improve on his fastball location before he can be successful pitching in the big leagues. "That's what hurt me last year," Banuelos said. "That is what I'm going to try and improve this year." He walked 71 hitters in 129 2/3 frames last season, and he'll begin 2012 in Class AAA.

Updating a previous report, Chicago Cubs SP Matt Garza is "out of the question" for the New York Yankees right now because the asking price is too high. The Cubbies reportedly are asking for two of C Jesus Montero and SPs Manny Banuelos and Dellin Betances. The Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers, Miami Marlins and Toronto Blue Jays are all linked to Garza, too. The Blue Jays are also balking at the Cubs' demands.
