Reds | David Holmberg suffers loss Wednesday

Wed, 26 Aug 2015 21:19:56 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP David Holmberg (1-4) allowed six runs on seven hits over 3 2/3 innings in a loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers Wednesday, Aug. 26, with two walks and one strikeout. He allowed three home runs in the fourth inning before being removed from the game.

Fantasy Tip: Holmberg ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) and manager Bryan Price both agreed that lack of command has led to his inconsistency and he plans to work on repeating his delivery between starts. He is scheduled to make his next start at Wrigley Field against the Chicago Cubs Monday, Aug. 31.

Reds | David Holmberg suffers loss Friday

Fri, 21 Aug 2015 19:16:36 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP David Holmberg (1-3) allowed five runs on 11 hits over five innings in a loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks Friday, Aug. 21, with one walk and two strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: After allowing six combined runs in his first three starts of the season, Holmberg ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) has allowed 12 runs over seven innings in his last two outings. He should be ignored in FantasyScore for now.

Reds | David Holmberg off to decent start

Mon, 10 Aug 2015 05:14:21 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP David Holmberg is 1-0 with a 3.27 ERA in two starts since replacing Kansas City Royals SP Johnny Cueto in the Reds rotation.

Fantasy Tip: Holmberg ($3,200, 6.4% of cap), who starts the Monday, Aug. 10, game against the San Diego Padres, is showing favorable results in the early going. He is a decent daily investment in FantasyScore for this price.

Reds | Cincy youngsters to be limited

Tue, 04 Aug 2015 16:31:34 -0700

Cincinnati Reds manager Bryan Price said all of the team's young pitchers, including SPs Anthony DeSclafani, Michael Lorenzen, Raisel Iglesias, David Holmberg, Keyvius Sampson, Robert Stephenson, Brandon Finnegan and John Lamb will have their innings monitored as the season wears on. "The biggest challenge is for a lot of guys who will be considered for call-ups for September or even earlier. We'll have guys who don't have that first major-league season where they pitched in September and had a chance to take their workload from 145 innings or 150 to 175 or 185. We'll have a lot of guys who we'll have to be cautious with their innings."

Fantasy Tip: That's not what owners of any of these pitchers want to hear, but it's a reality that often affects all young pitchers and their fantasy owners as the season winds down. On FantasyScore, none of the Reds young pitchers is ever a slam dunk, and their daily value will likely only continue to plummet if they are kept on pitch counts or innings limits.

Reds | David Holmberg starting Thursday

Tue, 28 Jul 2015 14:03:59 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP David Holmberg will start Thursday, July 30, and enter the starting rotation for now. SP Robert Stephenson was not in consideration for the spot.

Fantasy Tip: Stephenson should already be on the radar of keeper and dynasty owners, and he could come up when rosters expand in September or if Cincy deals away another starting pitcher, such as Mike Leake. Holmberg was 7-6 with a 4.40 ERA and 1.54 WHIP in 17 starts (108 1/3 innings) for Class AAA Louisville this year. His 5.1 K/9 rate suggests he won't have much to offer for fantasy owners with the Reds.

Reds | Trio of options for CIN rotation spot

Tue, 16 Jun 2015 19:46:14 -0700

The Cincinnati Reds need a pitcher to replace SP Jon Moscot (shoulder) in the rotation, and the options are SPs David Holmberg, Keyvius Sampson and Josh Smith.

Fantasy Tip: Moscot is likely to be sidelined a while due to a dislocation of his shoulder, so the replacement pitcher has a chance to be in the rotation for a while. FantasyScore players could find great value in the replacement.

Cincinnati Reds SP David Holmberg will be recalled from Triple-A Louisville to start Thursday, Aug. 21, against the Atlanta Braves.
