Oakland Athletics manager Bob Melvin indicated Tuesday, April 2, that 1B Nate Freiman might make his first start of the season Wednesday, April 3, against the Seattle Mariners.

The Oakland Athletics placed RP Fernando Rodriguez (elbow) on the 60-day disabled list Thursday, March 28, and added 1B Nate Freiman to the 40-man roster.

The Oakland Athletics have claimed 1B Nate Freiman off waivers from the Houston Astros. Because Freiman was a Rule 5 selection by the Astros from the San Diego Padres, he must remain on Oakland's major league roster for the entire season or be offered back to San Diego.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports the San Diego Padres have already signed 22 of their draft picks. Included in the signings are IF Nate Freiman (eighth round), P Chris Fetter (ninth round), IF Cody Decker (22nd), P Jeff Ibarra (23rd) and P Jon Berger (33rd).
