Athletics | Josh Phegley still cannot crouch

Tue, 26 Jul 2016 19:15:37 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Josh Phegley (knee) is not yet able to get in a crouch to get behind the plate, as he slowly recovers from surgery to remove a cyst from his right knee last month.

Fantasy Tip: When healthy Phegley is only worth a look as a No. 2 receiver in AL-only fantasy formats. Stephen Vogt remains the primary backstop in Oakland.

Athletics | Josh Phegley rehab update

Sat, 16 Jul 2016 12:37:31 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Josh Phegley (knee) could resume baseball activities next week, according to manager Bob Melvin.

Fantasy Tip: Phegley underwent surgery to remove a cyst from his right knee less than two weeks ago. When healthy, he usually doesn't play more than once or twice a week, so he is not worth stashing in any fantasy format.

Athletics | Josh Phegley undergoes surgery

Tue, 05 Jul 2016 15:15:03 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Josh Phegley (knee) underwent surgery to remove a cyst from his knee Tuesday, July 5.

Fantasy Tip: Matt McBride was promoted last time Phegley was injured, so expect McBride to receive the call again. However, these are low-level fantasy options. Phegley isn't worth stashing while injured, and McBride isn't worth an add.

Athletics | Josh Phegley likely headed for DL

Sat, 02 Jul 2016 22:07:15 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Josh Phegley (knee) is dealing with knee discomfort and he is expected to land on the 15-day disabled list, according to sources. He had a cortisone shot for a sore right knee in mid-May and had been feeling good, but it started acting up again Saturday, July 2. The team is likely to recall C Matt McBride to help back up C Stephen Vogt.

Fantasy Tip: Phegley is hitting .256 with a homer and 10 RBIs, and is only worth a look as a No. 2 receiver in deeper AL-only fantasy formats when healthy.

Athletics | Coco Crisp, Stephen Vogt out

Fri, 01 Jul 2016 14:32:30 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp and C Stephen Vogt are not in the starting lineup against Pittsburgh Pirates left-handed SP Jeff Locke Friday, July 1. OF Jake Smolinski is starting in center field and is hitting seventh, while C Josh Phegley is catching and batting eighth. Also, 2B Jed Lowrie moves into the leadoff spot.

Fantasy Tip: Crisp and Vogt are sitting the bench with a left-hander on the mound. Smolinski and Phegley have some success against right-handers and can be considered as sleeper options in daily games, but their placement near the bottom of the order limits their upside.

Athletics | Oakland resting four starters

Sun, 26 Jun 2016 11:00:52 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Billy Burns, C Stephen Vogt, 2B Jed Lowrie and 3B Max Muncy are not in the starting lineup against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago Sunday, June 26. OF Coco Crisp will start in center field, while OF Khris Davis will start in left field. 1B Billy Butler will serve as the designated hitter and is batting fifth. OF Jake Smolinski will start in right field and is batting sixth. C Josh Phegley will start at catcher and is batting eighth, while SS Arismendy Alcantara will start at second base and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Butler, Smolinski and Phegley has posted decent numbers in their limited playing time this season but are not strong options in most leagues. Alcantara has gone 1-for-4 since being recalled and should be avoided in all leagues at this point.

Athletics | Stephen Vogt sitting out

Wed, 22 Jun 2016 10:03:41 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt is out of the lineup Wednesday, June 22, with 2B Jed Lowrie hitting third. C Josh Phegley is hitting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Lowrie is hitting just .262 with one RBI in 65 at-bats this month. Moving into a prime spot in the order gives him some upside against Junior Guerra, though. Phegley is hitting close to .300 this month and is worth a basement play.
