Athletics | Josh Phegley starting at catcher

Tue, 26 May 2015 16:45:30 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Josh Phegley is starting behind the plate and hitting eighth in the order Tuesday, May 26, against the Detroit Tigers. C Stephen Vogt will start at first base and 1B Max Muncy is out of the starting lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Phegley ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is hitting .308 against left-handed pitchers this season, but David Price will pose a tough test. FantasyScore owners should look elsewhere.

Athletics | Stephen Vogt on the bench

Sat, 23 May 2015 09:27:38 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt is not in the starting lineup Saturday, May 23. C Josh Phegley will be the starting catcher for the Athletics.

Fantasy Tip: Vogt ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) likely is sitting out for a day and should return to the lineup in the next day or two. Phegley ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) has not seen a lot of playing time this season and is entering the game with a .244 batting average. Owners on FantasyScore may be able to find a better option to use.

Athletics | Stephen Vogt resting against lefty

Wed, 20 May 2015 09:16:04 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, May 20. C Josh Phegley is starting behind the dish and hitting sixth in the batting order against Houston Astros SP Dallas Keuchel.

Fantasy Tip: Phegley ($1,800, 3.6% of cap), who has one home run and four RBI in 38 at-bats this year, is a low-end catching option for FantasyScore lineups this afternoon. He is hitting .333 (7-for-21) with his lone home run against southpaws this year, though, giving you some optimism, although he's facing one of the tougher lefty hurlers in the league.

Athletics | Stephen Vogt taking day off

Fri, 15 May 2015 14:21:45 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt is not in the starting lineup against a left-handed pitcher Friday, May 15. C Josh Phegley draws the start and will hit sixth in the batting order against Chicago White Sox SP Carlos Rodon.

Fantasy Tip: Phegley ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) has only eight hits in 34 at-bats this year (.235) with no home runs and three RBI. He is, however, hitting .333 (6-for-18) in a small sample size against lefties. In any event, while facing stud prospect Rodon, who has high-strikeout upside, Phegley shouldn't be an attractive pick for daily gamers.

Athletics | Stephen Vogt resting Wednesday

Wed, 13 May 2015 09:28:11 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, May 13. C Josh Phegley receives the start and is hitting seventh in the batting order against Boston Red Sox SP Wade Miley.

Fantasy Tip: Phegley ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) becomes an intriguing value play at FantasyScore today against Miley, who has been hit hard most of the year. Despite hitting only .219 (7-for-32) on the year, Phegley is batting .313 (5-for-16) against lefties this year.

Athletics | Josh Phegley replaces Stephen Vogt

Sat, 02 May 2015 15:40:16 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Josh Phegley replaces C Stephen Vogt in the starting lineup Saturday, May 2, against the Texas Rangers. Phegley will hit eighth in the order against Rangers SP Nick Martinez.

Fantasy Tip: Phegley ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) has one run scored and one RBI through 23 plate appearances so far in 2015. Phegley is a .190-hitter off righties for his career, and he should be avoided by all FantasyScore owners.

Athletics | Stephen Vogt sitting vs. southpaw

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 14:04:24 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt is not in the starting lineup against the Houston Astros Friday, April 24. C Josh Phegley is starting behind the plate and batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: This could be a consistent platoon based on handedness, as Vogt ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) is a left-handed batter and Phegley ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is a righty. Although, it is interesting to see Vogt sitting because he is hitting .450 with three home runs over his past six games. Phegley has gone 5-for-10 against southpaws this season, but opposing pitcher Dallas Keuchel has been next to unhittable through his first three starts. Phegley is nothing more than a flier for daily contests Friday.

Athletics | Stephen Vogt hitting third

Tue, 21 Apr 2015 16:02:47 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt is starting at first base and hitting third in the batting order against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago Tuesday, April 21. C Josh Phegley receives the nod behind the plate and is batting seventh in the order. 1B Ike Davis is sitting the bench against the lefty starter.

Fantasy Tip: Vogt ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) is hitting well to begin the year, going 15-for-41 (.366) with four home runs and 12 RBI. However, tonight might be the best time to avoid him right now, as he hit just .205 with one of his nine homers against southpaws in 2014, and Santiago historically has been tough on the A's. Phegley ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) doesn't have much experience with lefties in his young major league career, but he figures to be a solid value play at catcher against a southpaw this evening.

Athletics | Josh Phegley starting Sunday

Sun, 19 Apr 2015 11:03:04 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Josh Phegley is starting behind the plate against the Kansas City Royals Sunday, April 19.

Fantasy Tip: Phegley ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is starting behind the plate in order to give Stephen Vogt ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) a day off. He makes a nice, low-cost option for FantasyScore owners who typically decide to punt the catcher position.

Athletics | Josh Phegley could be low-end option

Mon, 13 Apr 2015 20:56:19 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Josh Phegley might be forced into a starting role Tuesday, April 14, against the Houston Astros if C Stephen Vogt (ankle) cannot go.

Fantasy Tip: Vogt will be re-evaluated Tuesday. If Phegley starts, he would be a steal in FantasyScore at just $1,800 (or 3.6% of cap). At the very least, you could essentially punt the catcher position and save valuable salary to spread across other spots.
