Athletics | Josh Phegley done for the year

Tue, 22 Sep 2015 16:17:07 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Josh Phegley (concussion) has been ruled out for the rest of the season, according to manager Bob Melvin.

Fantasy Tip: Go ahead and drop Phegley ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) if you still owned him in a deeper league. He should yet again see plenty of playing time next season for Oakland and is a solid target as your second catcher in two-catcher leagues.

Athletics | Josh Phegley not optimistic

Tue, 22 Sep 2015 15:37:53 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Josh Phegley (concussion) said "it's not looking good" for him to return again this year.

Fantasy Tip: Take Phegley's ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) word for it if you own him in a deeper league and drop him.

Athletics | Stephen Vogt out against Houston

Fri, 18 Sep 2015 15:43:54 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt (groin) remains out of the starting lineup Friday, Sept. 18. C Josh Phegley is starting and is batting eighth against Houston Astros SP Mike Fiers Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Phegley ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) is nothing more than a dice roll at FantasyScore Friday, as he sports a .220/.277/.431 slash line against right-handed hurlers this season. Continue to check back for updates on Vogt ($4,000, 8.0% of cap). He is expected to return at some point this season.

Athletics | Stephen Vogt still out

Thu, 17 Sep 2015 09:18:20 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt (groin) remains out of the lineup Thursday, Sept. 17. C Josh Phegley is starting and is batting seventh against Chicago White Sox SP Jose Quintana.

Fantasy Tip: You could do much worse than this right-handed hitting catcher if you're looking to save a little loot at the catching position today. Phegley ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) hits lefties to the tune of a .274/.322/.460 slash line with five of his nine home runs this season.

Athletics | Stephen Vogt still sidelined

Tue, 15 Sep 2015 13:32:41 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt (groin) remains out of the lineup Tuesday, Sept. 15. C Josh Phegley is doing the catching and is hitting seventh against Chicago White Sox SP Jeff Samardzija.

Fantasy Tip: Samardzija has been pretty bad recently and has been inconsistent all season long. However, Phegley ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) has been equally as bad against right-handers (.212-4-16) in 104 at-bats. Phegley isn't a terrible sleeper pick at catcher, but the odds are against him.

Athletics | Stephen Vogt improving

Mon, 14 Sep 2015 14:02:32 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt (groin) is improving every day and will hit in the inside batting cages Monday, Sept. 14. C Josh Phegley is starting behind the plate and batting seventh against Chicago White Sox SP John Danks Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Vogt ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) has fell off the map since Wednesday, July 1, and he owns a .665 OPS over the period. He is expected to return at some point this season, but with Oakland playing the spoiler there is no reason to rush Vogt back. He is a desperation stash outside of deep mixed leagues at this point. Phegley ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) is a decent FantasyScore flier Monday, as he boasts a respectable .473 slugging percentage against lefties this season.

Athletics | Carson Blair catching Sunday

Sun, 13 Sep 2015 11:09:03 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Carson Blair will bat ninth against Texas Rangers SP Chi Chi Gonzalez Sunday, Sept. 13. C Josh Phegley is not in the starting lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Blair ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) is hitless in four career at-bats and should be avoided in FantasyScore unless you're in desperate need of FantasyScore cap relief.

Athletics | Stephen Vogt sitting out

Mon, 07 Sep 2015 11:52:46 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt (groin) is not in the starting lineup against Houston Astros SP Mike Fiers Monday, Sept. 7. C Josh Phegley will start at catcher and is batting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Vogt ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) suffered the injury in the last game and there is no timetable for his return. Phegley ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) received .256 in limited playing time this season, but owners on FantasyScore should be able to find better options.

Athletics | Josh Phegley catching Sunday

Sun, 06 Sep 2015 12:22:58 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Josh Phegley will bat eighth against Seattle Mariners SP Hisashi Iwakuma Sunday, Sept. 6. Stephen Vogt, who was behind the plate Saturday, Sept. 5, will play first base and bat third Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Phegley ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) is 2-for-14 over the last seven days and is hitting just .160 through 25 at-bats against the Mariners this season. On the other hand, Vogt ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) is 8-for-16 over the past week with a triple, home run and four runs scored, making him worthy of FantasyScore consideration this afternoon.

Athletics | Josh Phegley in against southpaw

Fri, 04 Sep 2015 14:54:24 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Josh Phegley is starting behind the plate and is hitting fifth against Seattle Mariners SP Edgar Olmos Friday, Sept. 4.

Fantasy Tip: Phegley ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) is never a bad consideration as a streamer against lefties on FantasyScore, and he can save you some nice salary cap space for the rest of your lineup. The A's backup catcher has a line of .295/.345/.495 with five of his eight homers against lefties, and Olmos shouldn't strike fear into anyone.
