Mets.MLB.com reports Robert Shields, an infielder the New York Mets made its second selection and 103rd overall in the First-Year Player Draft, has signed with the team. Terms were not disclosed. Shields will report to the Mets' Class A Brooklyn affiliate in the New York-Penn League.

MLB.com's Tim Britton reports the New York Mets selected SS Robert Shields from Florida Southern in the third round of the First-Year Player Draft. Shields hit .345 with five homers and 37 RBIs as a junior. Shields will likely start the season in Brooklyn with the Cyclones of the New York-Penn League.
