Mets | Steven Matz to make another rehab start

Thu, 27 Aug 2015 15:30:26 -0700

New York Mets SP Steven Matz (lat) is scheduled to make another rehab start for Class AA Binghamton Monday, Aug. 31, or Tuesday, Sept. 1. Matz likely would rejoin the team after that rehab start.

Fantasy Tip: Matz ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) likely will rejoin the starting rotation when he is activated from the disabled list. Owners may want to see him pitch in a game before considering him for their lineups.

Mets | Steven Matz has solid rehab outing

Wed, 26 Aug 2015 20:35:31 -0700

New York Mets SP Steven Matz (lat) allowed one hit over six scoreless innings in a rehab start for Class AA Binghamton Wednesday, Aug. 26, with no walks and six strikeouts. He threw 41 of his 56 pitches for strikes.

Fantasy Tip: Matz ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) will receive at least one more rehab start before being activated from the disabled list. At that point, he'll rejoin a six-man rotation, which will negatively impact the fantasy value of the team's other starters. He should be owned in most formats, although FantasyScore owners should avoid using him in his first start back.

Mets | Steven Matz needs more starts

Wed, 26 Aug 2015 15:02:27 -0700

New York Mets SP Steven Matz (lat) will make his third rehab start Wednesday, Aug. 26, pitching for Class AA Binghamton. He'll only throw 60 pitches, though, meaning he'll likely need at least one more minor league start before coming off the disabled list. The Mets also want to see better pitch location from Matz before he comes back up.

Fantasy Tip: When Matz ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) rejoins the Mets' rotation, they'll go with a six-man rotation, meaning the other starters' fantasy value will take a slight hit for the final month of regular season play. Matz should remain owned in most formats, and his handful of starts to finish out the year could be helpful. Be careful using him on FantasyScore when he immediately returns from the DL, though.

Mets | Steven Matz to return next month

Fri, 21 Aug 2015 17:08:36 -0700

New York Mets SP Steven Matz (lat) will return to the majors in September when the club begins using a six-man rotation, although the team was concerned with the lack of sharpness he displayed in a rehab outing for Class A St. Lucie Thursday, Aug. 20. He allowed one run on four hits over 2 2/3 innings, while throwing 27 of his 41 pitches for strikes.

Fantasy Tip: Matz ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) was supposed to come off the disabled list after making one more rehab appearance but plans were altered following Thursday's outing. In two starts for St. Lucie, he has posted a 4.91 ERA over 3 2/3 innings. Despite this performance, he remains worthy of stashing in all fantasy formats.

Mets | Steven Matz to rehab again Tuesday

Thu, 20 Aug 2015 16:10:57 -0700

New York Mets SP Steven Matz (lat) will make his next rehab start in the minors Tuesday, Aug. 25, after his rehab start with Class A St. Lucie Thursday, Aug. 20.

Fantasy Tip: Matz ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) is expected to need around a handful of minor league rehab starts before he returns to the starting rotation. When he's back next month, the Mets plan on going with a six-man rotation to relieve stress on their young starters. Matz should be a nice matchup play on FantasyScore when he returns.

Mets | Steven Matz pitching Thursday in minors

Wed, 19 Aug 2015 16:31:11 -0700

New York Mets SP Steven Matz (lat) will make a rehab start for Class A St. Lucie Thursday, Aug. 20.

Fantasy Tip: Matz ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) threw 25 pitches in a rehab start Saturday, Aug. 15, and he is expected to rejoin the rotation in September. While the rookie has oodles of upside and is worth stashing in the majority of formats, his impact will be minor, and one setback could keep him from starting at all. Keep that in mind, especially if you have other potential stashes.

Mets | NY starters to be rested down the stretch

Tue, 18 Aug 2015 10:14:53 -0700

New York Mets starting pitchers will be given more rest in September with the return of SP Steven Matz (lat) after rosters expand on September 1. RP Logan Verrett will likely receive a spot start or two in September to allow one of the team's marquee starters to be skipped. Matz has made one rehab start for Class A St. Lucie. SP Matt Harvey has tossed 154 innings and is on pace for roughly 15 or so more than the team would like. SP Noah Syndergaard is at 135 1/3 innings between the majors and minors, and he tossed 138 innings last season. There's less urgency in shaving innings off of SP Jacob deGrom's workload. He's at 146 2/3 innings after throwing 178 2/3 innings last season.

Fantasy Tip: The Mets will go with a six-man rotation when Matz ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) returns from the DL. Less starts and less innings down the stretch will slightly devalue the Mets' marquee starters for their fantasy owners.

Mets | Steven Matz starting rehab Saturday

Fri, 14 Aug 2015 14:14:16 -0700

New York Mets SP Steven Matz (lat) will begin his rehab assignment with a start for Class A St. Lucie Saturday, Aug. 15. He will only throw 25 pitches in the game and then throw another 15 in the bullpen. Manager Terry Collins said it'll be a few weeks before Matz returns from the disabled list and the Mets shift to a six-man rotation. Matz will likely make two more rehab starts as he increases his pitch count.

Fantasy Tip: Matz ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) deserves to be stashed in all formats, but he will return sometime in September and is unlikely to make a huge fantasy impact down the stretch, especially with the Mets going to a six-man rotation. All of the other Mets young starters will be affected negatively for their owners when Matz returns, too.

Mets | Steven Matz to make rehab appearance

Mon, 10 Aug 2015 20:04:11 -0700

New York Mets SP Steven Matz (lat) is scheduled to throw 25 pitches in a minor-league rehab appearance for Class A St. Lucie Saturday, Aug. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Matz ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) might be back at some point, but it is unlikely the team will rush him back. If he does return he is worth a look in FantasyScore, but don't hold your breath.

Mets | Steven Matz close to rehab assignment

Mon, 10 Aug 2015 13:38:14 -0700

New York Mets SP Steven Matz (lat) is tentatively scheduled to start a rehab assignment with Class A St. Lucie Saturday, Aug. 15, with an eye toward returning September 1.

Fantasy Tip: Matz ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) probably won't make much fantasy noise for the final month of the season, and the Mets won't rush him to make starts as they don't want to ruin his development if he's not 100% healthy. Don't feel compelled to hold him in shallow mixed leagues.
