Cubs | Dexter Fowler continues torrid start

Sat, 16 Apr 2016 14:13:53 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Dexter Fowler went 1-for-3 with a three-run blast in the seventh inning off Colorado Rockies RP David Hale on Saturday, April 16.

Fantasy Tip: Fowler has been held hitless in only two of his 10 starts this season and already has five multiple-hit efforts, leading to a glowing .417 batting average atop Chicago's lineup. Although some regression is inevitable, he appears well on his way to improving upon last season's .250 mark. Even if he hits a rough patch in the next few days, Fowler needs to remain in lineups for the foreseeable future.

Rockies | Nick Hundley placed on concussion DL

Sat, 16 Apr 2016 12:40:37 -0700

Colorado Rockies C Nick Hundley (head) was placed on the seven-day concussion disabled list Saturday, April 16. RP David Hale was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: The move is retroactive to Thursday, April 14. Hundley is still battling concussion-like symptoms after taking a foul tip off his mask on Wednesday, and backed off of a possible early return after reportedly feeling "woozy" following a live batting practice. Dustin Garneau should pick up the bulk of playing time in his absence but is not a recommended fantasy option.

Rockies | Jon Gray won't be ready

Thu, 24 Mar 2016 11:47:59 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Jon Gray (abdomen) will not be ready for the start of the regular season due to an abdominal strain. Gray said he won't be able to pitch in a game for a couple of weeks. He had a 3.86 ERA in five spring training outings. SPs Chris Rusin (finger), Christian Bergman and David Hale are candidates for the fifth rotation spot now that Gray is hurt.

Fantasy Tip: Gray, a former first-round pick, could be ready by late April. Keep tabs on his recovery timeline. There is strikeout stuff here, but he's been too up and down to rely on with any kind of consistency to this point. More patience is required, but he's a prospect to stash in NL-only and keeper leagues.

Rockies | Chad Bettis starting Tuesday

Mon, 24 Aug 2015 15:56:38 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Chad Bettis (elbow) will be activated from the disabled list to start against the Atlanta Braves Tuesday, Aug. 25. In a corresponding move, SP David Hale has been optioned to Class AAA Albuquerque.

Fantasy Tip: Bettis ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) hasn't started for Colorado since Sunday, July 19. And while the Braves are a team to target with your starting pitchers, Bettis remains a risky start. Hale ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) can be dropped in all seasonal formats.

Rockies | David Hale sets dubious record

Mon, 24 Aug 2015 00:46:55 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP David Hale threw four wild pitches in his team's 5-1 loss to the New York Mets on Sunday, Aug. 23.

Fantasy Tip: In defense of Hale ($3,200, 6.4% of cap), he did throw nine strikeouts, but Hale's record fell to 3-5 overall. In short, just your typical Coors Field outing. Although his ratio (13 walks, 40 strikeouts) is good, Hale's ERA has risen from 4.12 to 6.15 in his last eight starts. Leave him on your bench.

Rockies | David Hale activated, starting

Tue, 18 Aug 2015 09:07:19 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP David Hale (groin) was activated from the 15-day disabled list Monday, Aug. 17, and he will start the game against the Washington Nationals Tuesday, Aug. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Even though the Nats have been struggling offensively of late, Hale ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) is one to avoid on FantasyScore this evening. Before being injured, he was 3-4 with a 5.69 ERA and 1.39 WHIP while striking out only 6.6 hitters per nine innings.

Rockies | David Hale likely to enter rotation

Fri, 14 Aug 2015 15:48:36 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP David Hale will "most likely" enter the starting rotation and take the place of SP Eddie Butler, according to manager Walt Weiss. Hale would start Tuesday, Aug. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Hale ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) posted a 5.69 ERA and 1.39 WHIP while striking out 6.6 hitters per nine innings in eight starts earlier this year for the Rockies. He'll be facing the Washington Nationals Tuesday and makes for a very weak fantasy option at FantasyScore and in all other formats.

Rockies | David Hale to DL

Sat, 11 Jul 2015 11:03:47 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP David Hale (groin) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday, July 10.

Fantasy Tip: Hale ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) had a 5.69 ERA and 1.39 WHIP with just 6.6 strikeouts per nine innings in eight starts for the Rockies in 2015. Gonzalez Germen made the spot start for Hale Friday, but he's unlikely to stick in the rotation. Hale is an unattractive option in most fantasy formats.

Rockies | David Hale leaves game

Fri, 10 Jul 2015 00:53:55 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP David Hale (groin) left the game Thursday, July 9, after suffering a left groin strain. He was to be the team's starter Friday, July 10.

Fantasy Tip: Hale ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) saw his hold on a starting spot come loose, as he could be out for one or two starts. That could be long enough for someone else to take over for him.

Rockies | David Hale continues to struggle

Sun, 05 Jul 2015 05:31:16 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP David Hale lost again Saturday, July 4, against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Hale is now 0-4 in his last five starts.

Fantasy Tip: Hale ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) hasn't won since June 8, and he has struck out just eight batters over his last three starts. Hale isn't a FantasyScore option at home or on the road.
