Chicago Cubs OF Brett Jackson worked with manager Dale Sveum and hitting coach James Rowson in the offseason to lower his left elbow, dropping his hands and leaving less room for the bat to travel to the ball. Jackson also worked on other ways to shorten his swing after he hit just .116 with one extra-base hit in his last 20 games last season. "So far, so good," Sveum said. "It's (only about) five at-bats, and he has centered the ball. The first one he hit to center field (Saturday) was a great swing. That's about as quick as you can get a bat through the strike zone." Jackson will begin in the minors this year and will have to prove he has shortened his swing to avoid large amounts of strikeouts.

Updating a previous report, Chicago Cubs OF Brett Jackson's hands are now lower in his batting stance and his swing is more compact after working in the offseason with manager Dale Sveum and hitting coach James Rowson. "It has to do with using more of my top hand," Jackson said of the changes. "I'm a right-hand dominant athlete, and I have a tendency to try to overdo it a little bit with my bottom hand. If you watch swings from last year, you know my back elbow was getting really high and causing kind of like a teetering effect and making me slightly late on everything."

Chicago Cubs OF Brett Jackson has changed his swing in the offseason. "I think it's going to benefit him a lot," manager Dale Sveum said of the changes made during a week in November. "A lot of these things, you're optimistic about change and making adjustments and stuff, and as a player, you really want the games to get going because it all feels great, but how's it going to work in a game? That's the final piece of the puzzle."

Chicago Cubs OFs Brett Jackson and Jorge Soler are not ready to make an impact on the team's roster, making the team buyers in the outfield market this offseason. "We do have to address our outfield and we will look to do that," general manager Jed Hoyer said Friday, Nov. 30. "We like our prospects, but when they are as far away as some of those guys are you can't think about those guys. You have to think about your team now."
