Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez and the BoSox are reportedly far apart on terms for a contract extension. The deadline to reach said agreement wasn't a deal-breaker, but it's not a positive sign that it has passed. Still, many expect A-Gon to end up in Boston eventually, so this isn't the last we'll hear of it.

Sources said the Red Sox have received permission to negotiate with Gonzalez on a new contract. Gonzalez could undergo a physical as soon as Saturday, Dec. 4. Fantasy Tip: This trade makes Gonzalez a more stable fantasy baseball draft choice, to the point where he may be worth considering as a top-15 mixed pick. Kelly is the biggest prize in the Friars' haul, but he only recently began to concentrate solely on pitching and is probably a couple of years away from making an impact.

General manager Theo Epstein appears to be making progress in tempting Padres general manager Jed Hoyer with a package of top prospects. A proposed deal does not currently involve RP Daniel Bard. The Padres are likely to ask for P Casey Kelly and 1B Anthony Rizzo in any trade for Gonzalez. OF Ryan Kalish, SS Jose Iglesias, OF Josh Reddick, OF Reymond Fuentes, P Stolmy Pimentel and C Ryan Lavarnway could be other targets.
