Angels | Albert Pujols injury causing lineup changes

Thu, 21 May 2015 12:46:02 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 1B Albert Pujols (wrist) is out with a wrist injury, and the lineup has shuffled as a result. The Angels moved OF Mike Trout to designated hitter and placed OF Collin Cowgill in center for the Thursday, May 21, game against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Fantasy Tip: Trout ($6,400, 12.8% of cap) is a no-brainer to start. The real question is what to do with Cowgill ($2,100, 4.2% of cap). Cowgill won't likely start every game when Pujols is out or Trout serves as DH, but Cowgill should still be ignored with his .182 batting average in the last week.

Angels | Mike Trout stealing bases again

Tue, 12 May 2015 10:38:37 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Mike Trout has seven stolen bases and is on pace for 35 this year after stealing just 16 last year. Trout stole 49 bases in 2012 and 33 in 2013. "If you're stealing 50 bags a year, you're putting more of a beating on yourself when you're doing that than just about anything else you can do on a baseball field," general manager Jerry Dipoto said in spring training.

Fantasy Tip: Trout ($6,400, 12.8% of cap) also has a slash line of .307/.407/.596 and is one of 10 players with an OPS over 1.000 this year. The stolen bases are just icing on the cake. It's why he was a consensus No. 1 overall fantasy pick this year, and he's a nightly consideration at FantasyScore. He's worth the price more often than not.

Angels | Mike Trout's aggression paying off?

Tue, 05 May 2015 11:45:05 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Mike Trout promised to be more aggressive on first pitches in 2015, and although he leads the majors in pitches per plate appearance (4.52), he continues to be more aggressive with the first pitch. He is swinging at the first pitch 19.8% of the time in 2015, which is up from a career rate of 10.9%. As a result, he's seen his strikeout rate fall 2.5 points while adding a .315 average and .994 OPS.

Fantasy Tip: Trout ($6,400, 12.8% of cap) led the American League in strikeouts last year, so being aggressive early can help him avoid more two-strike counts. He'll continue to be a very strong play in daily contests like FantasyScore.

Angels | Mike Trout solid against King Felix

Mon, 04 May 2015 18:37:42 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Mike Trout enters the game Monday, May 4, against the Seattle Mariners and SP Felix Hernandez with a .365 career average with three home runs and 12 RBIs in 52 at-bats.

Fantasy Tip: FantasyScore players should avoid most Angels against King Felix, but not Trout ($6,400; 12.8% of cap). He has solved Hernandez to this point.

Angels | Halos shake up lineup Thursday

Thu, 30 Apr 2015 10:43:00 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SS Erick Aybar is leading off against Oakland Athletics SP Jesse Chavez Thursday, April 30, with 2B Johnny Giavotella hitting second, followed by OFs Mike Trout and Kole Calhoun.

Fantasy Tip: The lineup shift likely has to do mainly with Albert Pujols (hamstring) being out. The change mainly affects Aybar ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) and Giavotella ($3,000, 6.0% of cap), as they'll see more at-bats today as a result. Aybar has struggled to begin the season (.211-0-7), but Giavotella (.317-1-9) has been one of the team's more consistent hitters. Giavotella is the safer FantasyScore entry today, but Aybar could be a sleeper.

Angels | Mike Trout makes history

Fri, 17 Apr 2015 20:40:49 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Mike Trout hit two home runs and finished with five RBIs in a 6-3 win over the Houston Astros Friday, April 17, and he became the youngest player to hit 100 home runs and steal 100 bases.

Fantasy Tip: Trout ($6,400, 12.8% of cap) is living up to expectations so far, and he is hitting .444 with nine run scored and nine RBIs in 10 games. He has hit safely in every game this year, and he has multiple hits in five of his last seven. If you are going to spend up for a hitter at FantasyScore, Trout should be at the top of list.

Angels | Mike Trout homers in home debut

Thu, 02 Apr 2015 20:28:34 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Mike Trout hit a home run in his first at-bat in Angel Stadium of Anaheim Thursday, April 2, and he is hitting .462 this spring.

Fantasy Tip: Trout is the complete package for fantasy owners. He carries a $6,900 (13.8% of your cap) price tag on FantasyScore, but he is well worth it most days.

Angels | Mike Trout continues to excel

Fri, 27 Mar 2015 11:26:56 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Mike Trout entered the day Thursday, March 26, hitting .462 this spring, and he continues to slug home runs and doubles. Trout continues to do it all in spring training after winning the American League MVP Award in 2014.

Fantasy Tip: As if you needed any more reason to select Trout with the No. 1 overall fantasy pick. He's the consensus top pick in all fantasy formats, and he should have another outstanding season.

Angels | Mike Trout trying to cut down K's

Thu, 05 Mar 2015 16:55:10 -0800

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Mike Trout wants to be more aggressive early in counts after striking out an American League-leading 184 times last season. "I'm looking to drive the ball a little bit," Trout said. "The biggest thing about cutting down on the strikeouts is getting a pitch early in the zone to drive. I'm going to work on that this spring. Throughout my whole career, I've been taking. I like to see pitches, but I'm going to get locked and loaded first pitch. If it's in the zone, I'm going to take a hack at it."

Fantasy Tip: Trout demonstrated his willingness to be more aggressive in his first spring training at-bat, swinging at the first pitch he saw. The supremely talented outfielder is already the consensus top pick, and if he's able to cut down on punch outs, his production could be remarkable.

Angels | Mike Trout has flaws?

Wed, 25 Feb 2015 11:24:38 -0800

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Mike Trout finished with a .287 batting average in 2014 after hitting .326 and .323 in his first two seasons, and he plans to address some of his flaws in the cages with hitting coach Don Baylor this spring. Trout led the American League in strikeouts with 184 K's last year, and he said a failure to get his foot down in time was a big culprit. "Plain and simple, I was chasing the high pitch," Trout said. "Everybody knows that. The majority of the time, they were balls. Obviously you don't want to strike out. I'd like to put the ball in play and let my legs help me get a few more hits."

Fantasy Tip: An MVP player that goes into the offseason with something to prove is a scary thing. Trout is the unquestioned first overall pick in fantasy baseball for a reason, even though his numbers dipped slightly last year.
