Cardinals | Jason Heyward not starting

Sat, 23 May 2015 13:52:11 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jason Heyward is not in the starting lineup Saturday, May 23, against the Kansas City Royals. OFs Matt Holliday, Randal Grichuk and Peter Bourjos will start with 1B Mark Reynolds serving as the designated hitter.

Fantasy Tip: Reynolds ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) has three home runs on the season, and he has the ability to offer some occasional power. With a 33.7% strikeout rate and hitting out of the eighth spot in the batting order, Reynolds doesn't need much consideration on FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Randal Grichuk hitting fifth Thursday

Thu, 21 May 2015 09:10:54 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Randal Grichuk is hitting fifth in the batting order against New York Mets SP Jacob deGrom Thursday, May 21.

Fantasy Tip: Grichuk ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) has jumped all over the Red Birds' lineup the past couple days, hitting leadoff two days ago and eighth last night. He has five hits in his last two games and has doubled and tripled in two straight contests. deGrom is holding righties to a slash line of .195/.250/.287 this year and has been much better at home in 2015. Grichuk could struggle to return value today, even at his cheap price.

Cardinals | Randal Grichuk hitting eighth

Wed, 20 May 2015 13:56:14 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Randal Grichuk is starting in center field and hitting eighth in the batting order against New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon Wednesday, May 20, a day after hitting second in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Grichuk ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) had five strikeouts two days ago and had three hits and two RBI last night, showing that he's mainly been an inconsistent offensive producer in his brief time in the majors. A move to the bottom of the order makes him less attractive at FantasyScore, but for his cheap price, there's not a ton of downside.

Cardinals | Jason Heyward resting vs. southpaw

Tue, 19 May 2015 14:33:29 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jason Heyward is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, May 19. OF Randal Grichuk is starting in right field and hitting second in the batting order against New York Mets SP Jon Niese.

Fantasy Tip: Grichuk ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) hasn't seen much success in the major leagues early in his career, but he has the tools to produce with enough playing time. Right-handed batters have a .280/.329/.424 slash line off Niese this season, so Grichuk could be a sleeper play that pays off at FantasyScore tonight.

Cardinals | Randal Grichuk starting vs. Mets

Mon, 18 May 2015 12:42:21 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Randal Grichuk is batting eighth and starting in center field against the New York Mets Monday, May 18.

Fantasy Tip: The 25-year-old outfielder has received limited playing time this season, but with Jon Jay (wrist) on the disabled list, Grichuk ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) could see an uptick in at-bats. He projects to platoon with Peter Bourjos ($1,900, 3.8% of cap), but at this point, neither have much more than fleeting fantasy value in NL-only formats. FantasyScore players could turn to either in favorable matchups, but facing Matt Harvery Monday doesn't qualify.

Cardinals | Jason Heyward will not start

Sat, 16 May 2015 08:42:55 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jason Heyward is not in the starting lineup Saturday, May 16. OF Randal Grichuk will start in right field for the Cardinals.

Fantasy Tip: Heyward ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) likely is sitting out because the team is facing a left-handed pitcher. Grichuk ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) has not played since the middle of April and should not be an option on FantasyScore at this time.

Cardinals | Randal Grichuk ready for rehab?

Sat, 02 May 2015 14:35:57 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Randal Grichuk (back) told reporters he expects to go on a rehab assignment by Friday, May 8, at the latest.

Fantasy Tip: Grichuk ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) won't see everyday action unless one of the big outfielders gets hurt, but his return will provide some depth to the Cardinals' bench. He's worth a start at this low price when the Cards put him in the lineup.

Cardinals | Randal Grichuk receives start in center

Fri, 10 Apr 2015 12:30:34 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Randal Grichuk is starting in center field and batting eighth against the Cincinnati Reds Friday, April 10.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Jon Jay and Peter Bourjos in FantasyScore contests Friday, and Grichuk ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) becomes low-priced flier. However, even at Grichuk's cap-friendly price, he is risky.

Cardinals | Randal Grichuk must play to stay

Tue, 07 Apr 2015 07:52:51 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Randal Grichuk's usage will be monitored, according to general manager John Mozeliak. Grichuk must be used often enough to contribute so the team doesn't have the feeling that his development would benefit more by playing regularly in the minors. "Randal is a unique player," Mozeliak said. "He probably has the largest delta of what you might see from the talent and performance standpoint. You watch what he's capable of doing and the sky's the limit." "The big test will be in about three or four weeks when we wake up: Does he have 25 at-bats or 75 at-bats? From a roster management standpoint that is something that I will have to keep an eye on."

Fantasy Tip: Grichuk ($2,200, 4.4% of your cap) will be one of the plug-and-plays to keep an eye on when he's in the lineup. He could be quite valuable on FantasyScore in his starts, particularly against lefties.
