Cardinals | Randal Grichuk, Kolten Wong out

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 13:59:32 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Randal Grichuk and 2B Kolten Wong are not in the starting lineup Monday, July 25. OF Jeremy Hazelbaker is starting in center field and is hitting eighth, while 2B Greg Garcia is at the keystone and batting leadoff against New York Mets SP Noah Syndergaard.

Fantasy Tip: Garcia's daily value is on the rise hitting leadoff, and he's batted .311 in 90 at-bats this year. However, he has just two homers and 11 RBI and is unlikely to fill up the stat sheet for DFS players, making him a low-end option. Hazelbaker has just two hits in 10 at-bats (.200) since his return from the minors and is an option to avoid against Thor.

Cardinals | Randal Grichuk out vs. L.A.

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 15:53:46 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Randal Grichuk is not in the starting lineup Friday, July 22. OF Tommy Pham is starting in center field and is hitting leadoff against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Brandon McCarthy.

Fantasy Tip: Pham is likely flying under the radar in deeper leagues, but this guy can hit and could steal playing time from Grichuk. Pham has batted .298 with three home runs and five RBI in the month of July and is worth a peek on the waiver wire in deep mixed and NL-only universes if he continues to see playing time.

Cardinals | Handful of Cardinals resting in Game 2

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 14:42:52 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SS Aledmys Diaz, C Yadier Molina and OFs Randal Grichuk and Matt Holliday are all out of the starting lineup in Game 2 against the San Diego Padres Wednesday, July 20. SS Greg Garcia is starting at the 6 and hitting leadoff, OF Tommy Pham is starting in center field and hitting fifth, OF Jeremy Hazelbaker is in left field and batting sixth and C Alberto Rosario is doing the catching and batting eighth against Padres SP Paul Clemens.

Fantasy Tip: Against Clemens, who is making his first start of the year, all Cardinals hitters are worth considering as value picks in DFS action. However, the replacements are more of deep sleepers to help you save salary cap space if you're feeling bold. Rosario should probably still be ignored hitting down in the order.

Cardinals | Randal Grichuk leading off Tuesday

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 13:44:21 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Randal Grichuk will lead off Tuesday, July 19, against San Diego Padres SP Colin Rea.

Fantasy Tip: Ever since Grichuk's recall from Class AAA Memphis on July 5, he has been on fire at the plate. This might be the team's way of getting Grichuk higher-profile at-bats and setting the table for the other pop hitters. Either way you slice it, Grichuk is a better fantasy bet in daily and overall leagues.

Cardinals | St. Louis resting three regulars

Sun, 17 Jul 2016 10:17:18 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong, 1B Matt Adams and C Yadier Molina are not in the starting lineup against Miami Marlins SP Adam Conley Sunday, July 17. OF Matt Holliday will start at first base, while OF Randal Grichuk will start in left field. OF Tommy Pham will start in center field and is batting first. 2B Jedd Gyorko will start at second base and is batting seventh. C Alberto Rosario will start at catcher and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Pham is hitting 6-for-13 with two home runs and four RBI over the last seven days and is an attractive option for fantasy owners. Gyorko is hitting .350 with three RBI this month and could be used in daily leagues. Rosario has gone 2-for-4 since being recalled, but owners should be able to find better options.

Cardinals | Randal Grichuk homers again

Fri, 15 Jul 2016 21:09:35 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Randal Grichuk homered for the third time in five games, going 2-for-5 with a solo shot and a double in a 7-6 loss to the Miami Marlins Friday, July 15.

Fantasy Tip: His .229 average limits his value to NL-only leagues, but his power upside is legit and can make him an intriguing all-or-nothing play in DFS games.

Cardinals | Randal Grichuk leading off

Fri, 15 Jul 2016 15:16:48 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Randal Grichuk is batting first in the starting lineup against Miami Marlins SP Wei-Yin Chen Friday, July 15.

Fantasy Tip: Grichuk is currently on a six-game hitting streak and has two home runs and four RBI during that span. He should be a decent starting candidate in most fantasy leagues because of his recent production at the plate.

Cardinals | Randal Grichuk, Jedd Gyorko starting

Wed, 06 Jul 2016 14:54:11 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Randal Grichuk is starting in center field and hitting sixth Wednesday, July 6, and 2B Jedd Gyorko is at first base and batting seventh against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jeff Locke. OF Tommy Pham and 1B Matt Adams will start on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: Grichuk tweaked his stance in the minor leagues but must prove he deserves a spot in the everyday lineup moving forward. He's worth adding in mixed leagues because of his power potential. Gyorko has power but swings and misses too much to confidently rely on. He's an NL-only commodity, at best, because of spotty playing time.

Cardinals | Randal Grichuk refined swing

Wed, 06 Jul 2016 10:46:51 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Randal Grichuk refined his swing at Class AAA Memphis and admitted that he had no rhythm at the plate before his demotion. "I do have a different hand position, a different load and rhythm," Grichuk said. "At that point (when demoted) I didn't know where my hand position felt comfortable. I felt like each at-bat it was something different. Elbow down. Elbow up. Hands up. I didn't know what felt comfortable."

Fantasy Tip: Grich laced a single off Mark Melancon in his first at-bat back. The Cards' roster is packed with capable bats, and he will have to earn his playing time by hitting. He's worth having universally simply because of his power potential.

Cardinals | Brandon Moss put on DL

Tue, 05 Jul 2016 14:13:54 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Brandon Moss (ankle) was put on the disabled list with an ankle sprain Tuesday, July 5. OF Randal Grichuk was recalled from Class AAA Memphis in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Moss was playing sparingly and was hitting .251, but his 17 home runs made him a viable fantasy option in most seasonal leagues. Keep him stashed in deep mixed and NL-only leagues. Grichuk hit an abysmal .206 with eight home runs and 27 RBI before his demotion, and he's not guaranteed regular playing time. Watch him for now in deep mixed leagues to see if he's made an adjustment.
