Cardinals | Three Cards out Thursday

Thu, 05 May 2016 08:21:31 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SS Aledmys Diaz, OF Randal Grichuk and OF Matt Holliday are out of the lineup Thursday, May 5. OF Brandon Moss is hitting third, OF Jeremy Hazelbaker is hitting sixth and SS Ruben Tejada hits eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Moss is an interesting choice to hit third considering he is hitting .233 with 25 K's in 73 at-bats. He does have six homers and 16 RBI, so he's worth some low-end consideration against Jerad Eickhoff. Hazelbaker has cooled considerably since a storybook first two weeks. He's hitting .212 with two homers the last 15 games. He's a bleak low-end flyer. Tejada doesn't pack enough offensive punch to consider in DFS today.

Cardinals | Slumping Randal Grichuk sits

Mon, 02 May 2016 17:50:28 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Randal Grichuk is out of the lineup Monday, May 2. Manager Mike Matheny wants to give him a chance to "unplug" from his current 0-for-20 skid.

Fantasy Tip: Grichuk struggled in the very beginning of the year as well before snapping out of it, so there is hope he can emerge from this latest rut. If he doesn't do it soon, though, he could lose out on playing time in the long term, as guys like Jeremy Hazelbaker and Brandon Moss continue to hit their way into more starts.

Cardinals | Matt Adams starting vs. Phillies

Mon, 02 May 2016 12:31:38 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Matt Adams is batting sixth against Philadelphia Phillies SP Jeremy Hellickson Monday, May 2. OF Randal Grichuk is not in the starting lineup Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Adams has been better of late with an active 8-for-26 stretch leading into Monday, including two runs, three RBI and a .879 OPS over 29 plate appearances. He checks out as an upside option in daily contests Monday. Grichuk is off to an incredibly slow start with a .179/.261/.359 slash line, however, he has made the most of that horrible line with 15 runs, three home runs, 12 RBI and two stolen bases. Still, Grichuk's fantasy value and playing time are dwindling.

Cardinals | Randal Grichuk continues rut

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 16:17:55 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Randal Grichuk struck out as a pinch hitter Saturday, April 30, and is hitless in his last 16 at-bats.

Fantasy Tip: Grichuk has a high ceiling, but he's struggling this first month with a .189-3-12 line. If you can afford to, sit him until he shows signs of life.

St. Louis Cardinals OF Randal Grichuk is not in the starting lineup against Washington Nationals SP Joe Ross Saturday, April 30. OF Jeremy Hazelbaker will start in center field and is batting first in the lineup.

Cardinals | Brandon Moss starting vs. Arizona

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 14:29:42 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B/OF Brandon Moss is starting in right field and batting fourth against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Rubby De La Rosa Thursday, April 28. OFs Randal Grichuk and Jeremy Hazelbaker are not in the starting lineup Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Moss lands in a juicy matchup against De La Rosa. The hurler has allowed a .559 slugging percentage to left-handed batters dating back to the beginning of last season, and Moss has 15 runs, five home runs and 14 RBI through his past 17 games. Avoid Grichuk and Hazelbaker where you can Thursday.

Cardinals | Randal Grichuk drives in three

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 17:48:31 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Randal Grichuk went 3-for-5 with a double, three RBI and a run scored in an 8-5 win over the San Diego Padres Sunday, April 24.

Fantasy Tip: The slow start is behind Grichuk, and while his average could remain lousy, he has three homers, 11 RBI and 15 runs scored. He should be a starting-caliber outfielder in all formats.

Cardinals | Randal Grichuk sitting Monday

Mon, 18 Apr 2016 11:40:14 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Randal Grichuk is not in the starting lineup Monday, April 18. OF Jeremy Hazelbaker is starting in center field and is batting second against Chicago Cubs SP John Lackey.

Fantasy Tip: Hazelbaker has been one of the big surprises of this early season, hitting .394 (13-for-33) with three home runs, two stolen bases and seven RBI. He won't keep this pace up but should continue to be an attractive daily pick while he's hot.

Cardinals | Two Cardinals OFs go deep

Thu, 14 Apr 2016 14:58:19 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OFs Randal Grichuk and Jeremy Hazelbaker each recorded two hits, one home run and two RBI against the Milwaukee Brewers Thursday, April 14.

Fantasy Tip: Hazelbaker has been one of the biggest fantasy performers in the first few weeks of the season and should be used in mixed leagues during his hot streak. Grichuk struggled during the first week of the season but does have five hits in his last three games. Grichuk should still be a starting option in most mixed leagues.

Cardinals | Randal Grichuk breaking out of slump?

Wed, 13 Apr 2016 15:19:00 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Randal Grichuk walked three times Sunday, April 10, and had an RBI double, a single and two more walks Monday, April 11, after starting 1-for-14 with eight strikeouts on the season. Despite his early slump and OF Jeremy Hazelbaker tearing it up, the Cardinals plan to keep Grichuk regularly involved. "I think I put a little too much pressure on myself the first few games," Grichuk added. "When you're trying to do too much and you're not seeing it, it's a bad combination."

Fantasy Tip: The fact that Grichuk had five walks in a two-span is definitely encouraging. He's hitting .167 (3-for-18) heading into Wednesday evening. He'll bounce back and be fine for his fantasy owners, so don't be too worried. Start him Wednesday against Milwaukee Brewers starter Chase Anderson.
