Twins | Kyle Gibson encouraged by session

Fri, 25 Jul 2014 14:37:18 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Kyle Gibson (back) was pleased with his long-toss session from 120 feet and the 10 to 15 throws he made in the bullpen Friday, July 25. He's hopeful he can return to the rotation Tuesday, July 29.

Fantasy Tip: The matchup against the Kansas City Royals would be favorable, but he's been living on borrowed statistical time and would probably be rusty. Do you need the stream in a deep mixed league?

Twins | Kyle Gibson unlikely for Saturday

Thu, 24 Jul 2014 14:54:29 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Kyle Gibson (back) is unlikely to start Saturday, July 26, due to back stiffness. The Twins will have to recall a pitcher to start if Gibson is unable to go.

Fantasy Tip: Check back for an official announcement. Benching Gibson until he proves his health isn't out of the question.

Twins | Kyle Gibson wins rotation spot

Fri, 21 Mar 2014 10:25:33 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Kyle Gibson has won the team's final rotation spot to begin the season, which will move SP Samuel Deduno to the bullpen. Gibson posted a 2.70 ERA in four spring outings (two starts).

Fantasy Tip: Gibson is one the the best pitching prospects coming into the big leagues. He's more than a year removed from Tommy John surgery, too. However, he doesn't miss a ton of bats, although his home park should help him in that arena. He's worth a stash in AL-only leagues now that he's won a spot.

Twins | Samuel Deduno has early edge for No. 5?

Mon, 10 Mar 2014 17:23:53 -0700

Minnesota Twins SPs Samuel Deduno, Vance Worley, Scott Diamond and Kyle Gibson are competing for the No. 5 spot in the rotation, and assistant GM Rob Antony has said he doesn't believe there's a clear-cut front-runner. Deduno, Worley and Diamond don't have options remaining.

MLB.com reporter Rhett Bolinger believes Deduno appears to be the slight favorite because of his success in 2013 (3.83 ERA, 67 strikeouts and 41 walks in 108 innings). He appears to be healthy after having gone arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder last September, too. Manager Ron Gardenhire indicated that he'd like Deduno to make the club one way or another following the right-hander's three scoreless innings on Sunday, March 9. "He's filthy," Gardenhire remarked.

Fantasy Tip: Whoever wins this job is unlikely to have relevance in mixed leagues, but all of them have either produced the results or boasted the promise, or both, to be useful in them. Deduno and Gibson fit the bill most, but it's mostly AL-only managers who should be following them.

Twins | No front-runner for final rotation spot

Mon, 10 Mar 2014 15:01:39 -0700

There appears to be no clear-cut front-runner for the Minnesota Twins' final rotation spot between SPs Samuel Deduno, Vance Worley, Scott Diamond and Kyle Gibson, but Deduno may be the slight favorite because of his success last year. Deduno has looked healthy this spring after having arthroscopic surgery on his shoulder last September. Manager Ron Gardenhire indicated he'd like Deduno on the roster as either a starter or reliever this year. Worley is also healthy after having shoulder problems last year, and he's roughly 25 pounds lighter than 2013. Gibson might be on the outside looking in at the end of camp, because he still has minor league options left.
