Diamondbacks | Early exit for Shelby Miller

Sun, 01 May 2016 18:35:09 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Shelby Miller allowed three runs on four hits while walking four and striking out three over 3 2/3 innings in a loss to the Colorado Rockies Sunday, May 1.

Fantasy Tip: Miller isn't as bad as his 8.49 ERA suggests, but he isn't a fantasy ace either. If he has been cut loose in your league, it doesn’t hurt to stash him to see if he can figure things out and become a solid No. 3 or No. 4 fantasy starter.

Diamondbacks | Shelby Miller bombed by old mates

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 23:45:49 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Shelby Miller allowed five earned runs, five hits and four walks with six strikeouts over five innings in a loss Tuesday, April 26, against the St. Louis Cardinals, his former team.

Fantasy Tip: Miller's ERA slipped to 8.69 on the season. He worked four scoreless innings before getting hammered for five runs in the fifth inning. He can no longer be trusted in any fantasy format until he strings together a good start or two.

Diamondbacks | Shelby Miller on track to start

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 15:15:25 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Shelby Miller (finger) is on schedule to make his next start Tuesday, April 26, as he continues to work on his delivery. However, manager Chip Hale said "things can change."

Fantasy Tip: Boy has Miller been a disappointment to start off the year. He sports an 8.59 ERA and hasn't gone past the second inning in his last two starts after having control problems and scraping his knuckles on the ground during his follow-through. He's a candidate to be dropped in standard mixed leagues, and you should be very hesitant to use him in deep mixed and NL-only leagues his next time out.

Diamondbacks | Another early exit for Shelby Miller

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 14:41:50 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Shelby Miller (finger) left in the third inning due to a bout of wildness against the San Francisco Giants Thursday, April 21. It might've been the second start in a row that Miller scraped his pitching hand on the mound on his follow through, too.

Fantasy Tip: That's two starts in a row that Miller has put his fantasy owners in a bad spot. He gave up just one hit and two earned runs while walking five and striking out one in just two innings Thursday. We warned you that Miller was in for negative regression with his ERA and WHIP after joining the D-backs in an offseason trade. In shallow mixed leagues, dumping Miller isn't out of the question.

Diamondbacks | Shelby Miller on track for start

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 15:49:31 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Shelby Miller (finger) is on track to make his next start Thursday, April 21, opposite the San Francisco Giants.

Fantasy Tip: Miller sustained an odd cut in his last start that caused him to leave early in the ballgame, but it looks like he'll be good to go for his next assignment. Even so, it's hard to trust Miller right now, as he owns an ugly 8.53 ERA and 1.82 WHIP through his first three outings, while having not produced any quality starts within that span. At the very least, he'll be working from a pitcher's park in San Francisco, so hopefully he'll be able to get into a groove after Arizona surrendered so much of their future just to acquire his services.

Diamondbacks | Shelby Miller to make next start

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 17:10:24 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Shelby Miller (finger) will be able to make his start against the San Francisco Giants Thursday, April 21, after exiting his start Saturday, April 16, with cuts on his right index finger.

Fantasy Tip: Miller is off to a terrible start with his new team. You have no choice but to stick with him in season-long formats, but he needs to be avoided in DFS play until he turns things around.

Diamondbacks | Shelby Miller exits with cut on hand

Sat, 16 Apr 2016 19:55:51 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Shelby Miller (hand) exited his start Saturday, April 16, with cuts on right pointer finger after hitting his hand on the ground during his follow through.

Fantasy Tip: The injury doesn’t sound too serious at this point, but check back on his status in the coming days to make sure he will be ready for his next start.

Cubs | Dexter Fowler gets a day off Sunday

Sun, 10 Apr 2016 12:25:54 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Dexter Fowler is not in the lineup against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Shelby Miller on Sunday, April 10. 2B Ben Zobrist will move into the leadoff spot usually occupied by Fowler, OF Jason Heyward will move from right to center and hit second and 3B Kris Bryant will shift to right and bat third. 3B Tommy La Stella will man third base and hit sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Fowler is reportedly dealing with a sore hip as a result of the collision that led to teammate Kyle Schwarber's torn ACL on Thursday, although manager Joe Maddon stated he wanted to give his red-hot leadoff hitter the day off anyway. Fowler, Heyward, Bryant and Zobrist should be fixtures in most fantasy lineups any time they are playing while La Stella can be left on waivers.

Diamondbacks | Shelby Miller's velocity down

Wed, 06 Apr 2016 10:12:45 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Shelby Miller averaged 93.66 mph on 50 four-seam fastballs in his debut with the D-backs Tuesday, April 5, per Brooks Baseball. He was averaging 95.11 mph on his four-seamers last year with the Atlanta Braves.

Fantasy Tip: Don't be fooled by Miller's lack of run support last year in Atlanta. He can keep the ball on the ground, but his control is shaky and he doesn't strike enough batters out to support his 3.02 ERA. Expect regression in 2016, and his shaky start against the Rockies last night might be more of the norm, unfortunately for his owners.

Diamondbacks | Shelby Miller roughed up

Wed, 30 Mar 2016 16:07:26 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Shelby Miller allowed seven runs and seven hits in four innings of his final Cactus League game against the Oakland Athletics Wednesday, March 30.

Fantasy Tip: Miller lacks consistent command and doesn't strike out enough batters, meaning that his 3.02 ERA with Atlanta last year was extremely fortunate. He moves to a better team in Arizona, but his ERA is ripe for regression. Miller shouldn't be any higher than your fourth fantasy starter.
