St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Matheny announced Sunday, March 31, that SP Shelby Miller will start on turn, working Saturday, April 6, against the San Francisco Giants.

Cardinals | Shelby Miller named fifth starter

Mon, 25 Mar 2013 14:15:24 -0700

The St. Louis Cardinals have named SP Shelby Miller as their fifth starter over SP Joe Kelly.

Fantasy Tip: The Cardinals were believed to be leaning Miller, so this isn't a big surprise. He gives his team and fantasy owners a much higher K upside than Kelly, who will likely pitch in long relief. Draft Miller in the late rounds for rotation depth.

St. Louis Cardinals SPs Joe Kelly and Shelby Miller are both expected to make the team's Opening Day roster, as a result of the injury to CL Jason Motte (elbow). Cardinals | Shelby Miller shines

Tue, 19 Mar 2013 14:04:43 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Shelby Miller gave up one hit and a walk in four scoreless innings Tuesday, March 19, while throwing 31 of his 43 pitches for strikes. Miller's competition for the No. 5 rotation spot, SP Joe Kelly, allowed six hits (all singles) and four runs and made it through only three innings.

Fantasy Tip: At this point, it would seem that Miller has the advantage for the No. 5 spot, but this competition isn't over yet, apparently. Miller has a much higher ceiling and is worth a gamble in deep mixed formats.

Cardinals | Shelby Miller, Joe Kelly competition continuing

Tue, 19 Mar 2013 13:35:42 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Matheny hinted that the competition for the No. 5 rotation spot between SPs Shelby Miller and Joe Kelly will last another turn through the rotation.

Fantasy Tip: It was thought that Miller had the advantage for the spot, but it might be anyone's guess at this point. Miller is a budding prospect and has the upside factor going for him, which might tip the scales in his favor.
