Fri, 05 Apr 2013 12:37:29 -0700 Houston Astros SP Alex White (elbow) is scheduled to undergo Tommy John surgery to repair a strained right elbow. He will miss the entire 2013 season. Fantasy Tip: You can safely drop White in all formats now. He'll be out for the entire season.
Wed, 03 Apr 2013 12:41:00 -0700 Houston Astros SP Alex White (elbow) is seeking a second opinion on his elbow from Dr. James Andrews, who is reviewing White's MRI results. "We have a pretty good idea what's going to happen, and we're just waiting for Andrews to take a look and make a decision for us," White said. "I've gotten used to the idea, and it's going to be a long process getting back to the field. It will be day to day, and even if it's just a sprain, it's still going to take me a while to get back." White is expected to need Tommy John surgery, which will put him out for the entire season. Fantasy Tip: If you own White in an NL league, it's probably safe to drop him at this point, as it looks inevitable that he'll need Tommy John surgery.
Sun, 31 Mar 2013 19:58:41 -0700 Houston Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow said Sunday, March 31, that SP Alex White (elbow) could undergo Tommy John surgery. He has already had an MRI, and the team is waiting on a second opinion before making a decision about his next move. "We'll have a long discussion about the course of action," Luhnow said. "The reason we put him on the (60-day disabled list) is he's not going to throw for at least a couple of weeks."
Sat, 30 Mar 2013 18:08:51 -0700 The Houston Astros have placed SP Alex White (elbow) on the 60-day disabled list because of a sprained elbow. White suffered the injury during the team's exhibition game Friday, March 29.
Mon, 25 Mar 2013 12:39:23 -0700 Houston Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow has hinted that SP Erik Bedard will be in the starting rotation. SPs Alex White and Brad Peacock are fighting for the No. 5 spot. Fantasy Tip: Bedard can still post decent strikeout numbers when he's healthy, but the rest of his peripherals can hurt you, especially in the American League West. Reserve him for AL-only formats.
Mon, 25 Mar 2013 12:30:32 -0700 Houston Astros SPs Brad Peacock and Alex White, RP Xavier Cedeno, INF Matt Dominguez, C Carlos Corporan and OFs Justin Maxwell, Brandon Barnes, Chris Carter and Fernando Martinez were told that they have made the roster. Ps Jose Valdez and Kevin Chapman, INFs Brandon Laird and Jose Martinez and C Rene Garcia will be sent to the minors. P Chia-Jen Lo was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Wed, 20 Mar 2013 12:11:09 -0700 The Houston Astros optioned SPs Jordan Lyles and John Ely to Triple-A Oklahoma City Wednesday, March 20. Ps Alex White, Brad Peacock, Edgar G. Gonzalez and Erik Bedard are now battling for the final two spots in the starting rotation. Gonzalez is likely to be used in long relief. Lyles had given up 36 hits and 23 earned runs in just 11 2/3 spring innings. Fantasy Tip: Lyles was working on some things this spring as he matures as a pitcher. Don't write him off after he made significant command gains at the end of last season. He'll be back. Peacock is probably the most intriguing pitcher in the competition for a roster spot and should be given a look in deep NL leagues.
Sun, 10 Mar 2013 19:53:24 -0700 Houston Astros manager Bo Porter was happy with the latest Grapefruit League spring start by SP Alex White. He allowed four runs, five hits and a walk with two strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings in a weekend start, but Porter was still excited. "We're really putting an emphasis on pounding the strike zone, pounding the strike zone, giving the defense a chance," Porter said Sunday, March 10. "Alex did a great job. His sinker actually had a lot of movement and we were pleased with the outing."
Wed, 27 Feb 2013 14:27:34 -0800 Houston Astros SP Alex White has a realistic shot to crack the opening day rotation. "I put in a lot of time this offseason and made a lot of changes throughout my delivery to be more consistent," White said. "I think now I'm just kind of seeing that I've put in the work and hopefully good things will happen. I have to make sure I throw a lot of strikes, and that's the key."
Wed, 05 Dec 2012 00:58:35 -0800 The Houston Astros acquired P's Alex White and Alex Gillingham from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for P Wilton Lopez and a player to be named later.
