"I am about two months ahead of schedule in my throwing program," Matzek said. "A lot of (stuff) hasn't gone my way, but I am still young. I know I can get outs if my mechanics are right." Matzek has focused on his stride direction and not hooking his arm behind his body in his delivery.

Tue, 18 Aug 2009 05:40:57 -0700 Rockies.MLB.com's Thomas Harding reports the Colorado Rockies signed first-round pick P Tyler Matzek to a deal with a club-record $3.9 million signing bonus. Matzek will receive $2,000 within 45 days of contract approval, and two installments of $950,000 by June 1. In addition, he is enrolled in the Major League Baseball College Scholarship Program, which is worth $16,000 for eight semesters -- $12,000 for tuition books and fees and $4,000 for room and board.
