Washington Nationals RP Drew Storen (toe) continues to deal with an open blister on his left big toe, but the team is hoping he can pitch again Wednesday, April 1.
Fantasy Tip: Storen should be fine for opening day next Monday. He's a legitimate closing option with more job security than he's ever had before in Washington. Casey Janssen (shoulder), Storen's primary setup man, is likely to start on the disabled list.

Updating a previous report, Washington Nationals RP Drew Storen (toe) left the game because of a blister on his right big toe Monday, March 30. It is not considered a serious issue.
Fantasy Tip: Storen remains a second-tier closer in seasonal leagues and is worth targeting after the top options come off the board in drafts. He posted a 1.12 ERA and 0.98 WHIP with 11 saves over 56 1/3 innings serving primarily as a setup man last season, and he recorded 43 saves in 2011 in the closer role.

Washington Nationals RP Drew Storen (hand) underwent surgery on his left hand Friday, March 13, to remove the broken hook of his hamate bone. The right-handed releiver will begin throwing within two to three days and is expected to be ready well in advance of opening day, according to manager Matt Williams.
Fantasy Tip: Running to the mound in the ninth inning for the Nationals will yield plenty of save opportunities for Storen, and he did save 43 games for the club in 2011. Last season, Storen excelled with a 1.12 ERA and 0.98 WHIP with 11 saves over 56 1/3 innings serving primarily as a setup man. He projects as a second-tier closer and is worth targeting after the big boys come off the board on draft day.

Washington Nationals RP Casey Janssen said the team told him that he will set up RP Drew Storen this season. "I talked to (general manager) Mike Rizzo and (manager) Matt Williams, and they both said, 'You are going to pitch quality innings in the game.' They said Drew Storen is our closer. My job is to get the ball to him. I'm going to embrace that role and try to get him the ball with the lead."

Washington Nationals RP Rafael Soriano will have his playoff fate decided in the next 10 days after RP Drew Storen has locked down the closer's role. Soriano is feeling more comfortable with his setup role and said he'd be ready for the playoffs after a few more games. Soriano preserved a four-run lead with a perfect ninth inning Thursday, Sept. 18. The team's final relief spot for the postseason will likely come down to Soriano and RPs Jerry Blevins, Xavier Cedeno and Blake Treinen. Manager Matt Williams still believes in Soriano.

Washington Nationals RP Drew Storen earned his third straight save over the Atlanta Braves Tuesday, Sept. 9. However, manager Matt Williams hasn't declared Storen the new closer after demoting RP Rafael Soriano in favor of a committee approach recently. Storen is unlikely to pitch in four straight games Wednesday, Sept. 10, even if he has secured the job.
