Updating earlier reports, free-agent SP Mike Leake (Giants) agreed to a five-year, $80 million deal that includes a mutual option that could increase the total value to the $93 million range. The deal includes a full no-trade clause.

Dodgers | Mike Leake could interest Dodgers

Thu, 17 Dec 2015 11:17:39 -0800

Free-agent SP Mike Leake (Giants) could be of interest to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Fantasy Tip: Leake has averaged 12 wins and 200 innings the last three seasons, with a 3.70 ERA last year. He's a back-end fantasy rotation guy, but his stock would elevate on the Dodgers.

Giants | San Francisco seeking another starter

Fri, 11 Dec 2015 14:44:03 -0800

Free-agent SPs Mike Leake (Giants), Wei-Yin Chen (Orioles) and Ian Kennedy (Padres) are all of interest to the San Francisco Giants.

Fantasy Tip: San Francisco is looking for another hurler to fill out their starting rotation. Leake and Chen are low-end grabs in seasonal leagues because of their lack of strikeout upside, and should be reserved for deep mixed formats and usage as streamers in favorable matchups. Kennedy has upside as an end-of-the-rotation arm for your virtual rotation, especially if he sticks in the National League.

Nationals | Washington cooling on Mike Leake

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 18:03:48 -0800

The Washington Nationals have reduced interest in free-agent SP Mike Leake (Giants) and a deal now appears unlikely, according to multiple sources. The team is currently pursuing other pitchers in free agency.

Fantasy Tip: Leake went 11-10 with a 3.70 ERA in 30 starts for the Cincinnati Reds and San Francisco Giants last season. He is a finesse pitcher who doesn't strike out many batters, so he's best suited as a back-of-the-rotation starter for single-universe and deep mixed fantasy leagues or in favorable matchups in FantasyScore.

Nationals | Nats could pursue Wei-Yin Chen

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 18:03:22 -0800

The Washington Nationals may decide to pursue free-agent SP Wei-Yin Chen (Orioles) if they are unable to sign free-agent SP Mike Leake (Giants).

Fantasy Tip: The Nationals are looking to fill a void in their starting rotation created by the departure of Jordan Zimmermann through free agency. Chen went 11-8 with a 3.34 ERA in 31 starts for Baltimore in 2015 and is 46-34 with a 3.72 career ERA. His fantasy value is certain to receive a boost if he makes the move from the hitter-friendly AL East to the NL East and he makes a solid middle-of-the-rotation option in all fantasy formats.

Nationals | Nats make offer to Mike Leake

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 11:18:00 -0800

The Washington Nationals have made an offer to free-agent SP Mike Leake (Giants) and are pushing for a deal.

Fantasy Tip: Leake is not your typical strikeout artist, as he had just 5.6 strikeouts per nine innings with the Cincinnati Reds and San Francisco Giants last year. That makes him more of a deep mixed league commodity and matchup play on FantasyScore.

Diamondbacks | Mike Leake not headed to Arizona

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 08:51:44 -0800

Updating a previous post, free-agent SP Mike Leake (Giants) is no longer an option for the Arizona Diamondbacks after they traded for SP Shelby Miller Tuesday, Dec. 8, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Leake isn't a strikeout artist by any means, but he can still be useful to fantasy owners to round out your fake pitching staff in the right matchups. He'll mainly be attractive as a late-round commodity as a No. 4 or 5 starter, and he can also be useful on FantasyScore when facing the right lineups.
