Cardinals | Mike Leake dealing

Sat, 21 May 2016 16:18:05 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Mike Leake allowed four hits and struck out three in seven shutout innings to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks Saturday, May 21.

Fantasy Tip: Leake is 3-0 with a 0.85 ERA in his last three starts. He's not going to be more than a midrange option in fantasy because he doesn't strike guys out, but he's certainly worth starting in most matchups right now.

Dodgers | Carl Crawford out of Sunday lineup

Sun, 15 May 2016 15:06:18 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Carl Crawford is not in the starting lineup Sunday, May 15, against the St. Louis Cardinals. OF Howie Kendrick will bat sixth and play in left against Cardinals SP Mike Leake.

Fantasy Tip: It appears to be a normal night off for Crawford, so bench him accordingly. Kendrick has a .400 average against St. Louis, but it's too small a sample size (2-for-5) to take seriously. With a .200 average and only four runs batted in, Kendrick in reality has little fantasy value and should be avoided.

Cardinals | Mike Leake earns first win

Wed, 11 May 2016 00:53:58 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Mike Leake earned his first win in a Cardinal uniform Tuesday, May 10. He allowed six hits and one run in eight innings as St. Louis won, 8-1, over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Fantasy Tip: Leake struggled through the first three decisions of his St. Louis career, prompting some to wonder if the Cardinals overpaid when they signed Leake to a five-year deal worth $80 million. Keep in mind the Angels are struggling to produce on offense, so Leake will need to put one or two more quality wins together before more believers will come out of the woodwork. For now, be a little wary of relying on Leake in your fantasy league.

Thu, 17 Dec 2015 11:17:39 -0800

Free-agent SP Mike Leake (Giants) could be of interest to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Giants | San Francisco seeking another starter

Fri, 11 Dec 2015 14:44:03 -0800

Free-agent SPs Mike Leake (Giants), Wei-Yin Chen (Orioles) and Ian Kennedy (Padres) are all of interest to the San Francisco Giants.

Fantasy Tip: San Francisco is looking for another hurler to fill out their starting rotation. Leake and Chen are low-end grabs in seasonal leagues because of their lack of strikeout upside, and should be reserved for deep mixed formats and usage as streamers in favorable matchups. Kennedy has upside as an end-of-the-rotation arm for your virtual rotation, especially if he sticks in the National League.

Nationals | Washington cooling on Mike Leake

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 18:03:48 -0800

The Washington Nationals have reduced interest in free-agent SP Mike Leake (Giants) and a deal now appears unlikely, according to multiple sources. The team is currently pursuing other pitchers in free agency.

Fantasy Tip: Leake went 11-10 with a 3.70 ERA in 30 starts for the Cincinnati Reds and San Francisco Giants last season. He is a finesse pitcher who doesn't strike out many batters, so he's best suited as a back-of-the-rotation starter for single-universe and deep mixed fantasy leagues or in favorable matchups in FantasyScore.
