Mets | Zack Wheeler throws bullpen

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 14:04:31 -0700

New York Mets SP Zack Wheeler (elbow) threw a bullpen session Friday, July 22, and his next step in the process is to face batters before progressing to rehab games.

Fantasy Tip: Wheeler is coming back from Tommy John surgery and is looking at a mid-August return to New York's rotation if he can avoid any further setbacks. You're looking at seven or eight starts from him, and there's no guarantee he'll be in top form at that time, so temper your expectations for what he can offer in 2016. Stash him in deep mixed and NL-only leagues but you can wait in the rest of formats.

Mets | Zack Wheeler progressing

Fri, 15 Jul 2016 06:27:09 -0700

New York Mets SP Zack Wheeler (elbow) has thrown from a mound twice since his setback and expects to begin facing hitters soon. His new timetable projects a return in mid-to-late August.

Fantasy Tip: Wheeler is worth stashing in NL-only formats. However, he's not a must-stash in mixed leagues if your DL spots are full. If he returns in mid-August, you're looking at seven or eight starts.

Mets | Zack Wheeler still not close to a return

Wed, 06 Jul 2016 14:43:42 -0700

New York Mets SP Zack Wheeler (elbow) has yet to begin throwing bullpen sessions and is not close to returning from the disabled list. He is currently throwing from 120 feet and a full slate of rehab starts is still ahead.

Fantasy Tip: Wheeler's fantasy window is closing quickly, as starters usually spin approximately 12 to 15 starts in the second half of the season. In a best-case scenario, Wheeler could receive five or six starts. So, since he hasn't pitched since 2014, unless you have the luxury of being able to stash him in a DL slot, you should likely move on.
