"I'm not going to have that conversation with you guys before I have a conversation with him," manager Eric Wedge said. "But right now, my focus is for him to be more productive in the three-hole. He's a smart guy. There's nothing I need to say to him. He has his unique approach to hitting and it has to work." Wedge prefers 2B Dustin Ackley in the leadoff spot for now.

"He's played a good third base for us," manager Eric Wedge said. "He's more familiar with second and had a heck of a game over there the other day. To be able to play him at either place and be able to feel good about him defensively, there is a lot of value with that." Seager will continue to see most of his time at third base, however. He's hitting .333 with five doubles, three home runs and 14 RBIs in his last 16 games.

"I don't know where they're coming from," Wedge said against Figgins' strikeouts. "We're still giving Figgins an opportunity, but he has to do it - simple as that," Wedge said. "I mean, if he does, we'll keep him in there. If not, we'll make a change." 2B Dustin Ackley is likely the backup plan at leadoff if Figgins continues to struggle. The team is likely to cut C Miguel Olivo, who is also struggling at the plate, more slack so they can have another veteran presence other than OF Ichiro Suzuki. The M's aren't ready to give C Jesus Montero the everyday catching role, either.

IF Alex Liddi was the third baseman, batting sixth, and 1B Justin Smoak was back after a two-game absence. "Figgy needed a day off, we wanted to get Ackley up top and give Ryan a look batting second," Mariners manager Eric Wedge said. "We wanted Jesus Montero to catch Felix tonight and Miguel Olivo to catch Hector Noesi (today)."
