Wed, 15 May 2013 18:11:27 -0700 Seattle Mariners 2B Dustin Ackley (ankle) said Wednesday, May 15, that he has been dealing with a sore left ankle, left over from offseason bone spur surgery, and time off did not affect his soreness. "It feels the same, no matter what," Ackley said. "I think it actually feels better when I'm playing than when I'm not because you get the adrenaline flowing." Ackley was back in the lineup against the New York Yankees Wednesday after resting Tuesday, May 14.
Tue, 14 May 2013 20:04:58 -0700 Seattle Mariners manager Eric Wedge said Tuesday, May 14, that the reason 2B Dustin Ackley and 1B Justin Smoak were out of the lineup against the New York Yankees was simply due to playing matchups. "It's more of a matchup thing than anything," Wedge said. "I wanted to get (OF Raul Ibanez) in there, and I wanted to get (INF Robert Andino) and (SS Brendan Ryan) in there. They both had decent numbers against CC."
Mon, 29 Apr 2013 17:19:50 -0700 Seattle Mariners 2B Dustin Ackley is taking the day off against a left-handed pitcher Monday, April 29, but manager Eric Wedge also said the team wants to periodically rest Ackley to make sure that his ankle stays healthy. "We want to give him sporadic days off," Wedge said. "But yeah, it's because there's a lefty on the mound. It's not that I won't play him against lefties. He was the odd man out today."
Fri, 26 Apr 2013 08:14:57 -0700 Seattle Mariners 2B Dustin Ackley hit .409 (9-for-22) on the recent six-game road trip.
Mon, 15 Apr 2013 11:47:44 -0700 Seattle Mariners 2B Dustin Ackley made tweaks to his readjusted batting stance. Instead of starting with his bat forward, he's facing the pitcher in a more traditional hitting position now. He was encouraged with the results Sunday, April 14. "I'm still trying to accomplish the same things I was working on in spring and early in the season," he said. "It's not like I'm totally changing everything that's going on. I think it's just a little bit of a modification, just to take some timing out of it. Yesterday, and the last at-bat of the day before, I felt really good with it." Fantasy Tip: Ackley is off to a slow start and is available in most mixed formats because of this. Keep an eye on him to see if he starts to turn things around after making these modifications to his stance. He should continue to be owned in all AL leagues.
Mon, 18 Mar 2013 13:33:48 -0700 Seattle Mariners 2B Dustin Ackley could hit seventh or eighth in the lineup to start the year. Ackley is hitting .292 this spring but is still getting used to the timing of his swing changes this offseason. He has just one extra-base hit in camp and hasn't squared the ball up that much. Fantasy Tip: Hitting Ackley lower in the order to start the year would benefit him and allow him to see better pitches as he gains comfort with his new swing mechanics. Ackley is a sleeper option at the keystone and will come at a pretty cheap price in most drafts.
Thu, 21 Feb 2013 14:27:34 -0800 Seattle Mariners manager Eric Wedge said 2B Dustin Ackley (ankle) and SS Brendan Ryan (elbow) will be held out of the first three spring games after they are returning from minor offseason surgeries.
Mon, 18 Feb 2013 16:21:17 -0800 Seattle Mariners 2B Dustin Ackley is now starting with his shoulders almost facing the pitcher, and he slides them back to be parallel with the plate when a pitch is in motion. "It just puts me in good hitting positions," he said. "Last year, with the old stance I had, there was no separation, my hands, and everything. I worked on it a lot this offseason just to get that feel of maybe what it used to feel like, as opposed to last year, when I didn't really know what was going on. I think that was important for me this offseason."
Mon, 04 Feb 2013 23:40:25 -0800 Seattle Mariners 2B Dustin Ackley may lead off to start the 2013 season if his bat proves solid during spring training. Manager Eric Wedge envisions Ackley as a prototypical leadoff hitter. There has also been some speculation about moving Ackley into the outfield, if only because several top prospects play second and moving Ackley could mean a hot prospect comes up.
Thu, 24 Jan 2013 09:43:09 -0800 Seattle Mariners 2B Dustin Ackley (ankle) is fully recovered after undergoing offseason arthroscopic surgery to remove bone spurs in his left ankle. Team trainer Rick Griffin said Ackley's ankle affected his swing last year as he struggled to push off his plant foot.
