The Oakland Athletics optioned P Sean Doolittle and OF Jermaine Mitchell to Triple-A Sacramento Sunday, March 11. The team also reassigned P Fabio Castro, OF Michael Choice, SP Edgar G. Gonzalez, P Sonny Gray, OF Grant Green, OF Cedric Hunter, RP Jim Miller, OF Jason Pridie, C Max Stassi and RP Merkin Valdez to their minor league camp.

Oakland Athletics minor league C Max Stassi (shoulder) has made a full recovery from shoulder surgery. He said he felt good after throwing to the bases three times.

Updating a previous item, The Oakland Tribune's Joe Stiglich reports 10 players were cut Sunday, March 13. Players reassigned to minor league camp included P's Joe Bateman, Vinnie Chulk, Gabe DeHoyos, Fautino De Los Santos, Willie Eyre and Pedro Figueroa; C Max Stassi; 1B Sean Doolittle; 2B Adrian Cardenas and SS Josh Horton.

Oakland Athletics C Max Stassi hit a home run in the team's intrasquad game Friday, Feb. 25, reports Susan Slusser, of the San Francisco Chronicle. Stassi is considered a long shot to make the team.

The Oakland Athletics have invited 20 non-roster players to spring training, according to MLB.com's Jane Lee. Among those on the invitation list are OF's Matt Carson, Jai Miller and Michael Choice; C's Anthony Recker and Max Stassi, SS Grant Green, 2B Jemile Weeks, 3B's Wes Timmons and Andy LaRoche, SS Josh Horton; RP's Fernando Cabrera, Vinnie Chulk, Gabe DeHoyos and Willie Eyre; and P's Joe Bateman, Danny Farquhar and Yadel Marti.

Updating previous reports, Athletics.MLB.com's Mychael Urban reports the Oakland Athletics signed fourth-round pick C Max Stassi to a contract with a $1.5 million signing bonus, which was a record for a fourth-rounder. Stassi was widely considered a first-round talent but fell to the fourth round due to his desire for first-round money and leverage in the form of a full scholarship to UCLA.

According to The Oakland Tribune, the Oakland Athletics are hoping to persuade fourth-round pick Max Stassi, a high school catcher, to sign. Stassi has a scholarship to UCLA. Teams have until Aug. 17 to sign draft picks before losing their rights.
