Astros | Max Stassi continues to progress

Wed, 04 May 2016 23:56:27 -0700

Houston Astros C Max Stassi (wrist) started a minor-league rehab assignment Tuesday, May 3, with Class AAA Fresno, and he is expected to catch fellow rehabbing SP Lance McCullers (shoulder) in a game with the Grizzlies Saturday, May 7.

Fantasy Tip: Stassi is making progress, and he is likely to slot behind the red hot Jason Castro once Stassi is healthy enough to return. Veteran Erik Kratz has done absolutely nothing at the dish so far.

Astros | Max Stassi takes break from rehab

Wed, 13 Apr 2016 23:07:27 -0700

Houston Astros C Max Stassi (hand) is taking a few days off from his minor-league rehab assignment in Florida due to a sore oblique. It isn't much of an injury, but more of a delay in his recovery from left hamate bone surgery. Manager A.J. Hinch said Stassi will be able to resume his resume in a couple of days.

Fantasy Tip: Stassi has a career .357 batting average in limited playing time. It remains to be seen what he can do with regular playing time, and as long as Jason Castro stays healthy Stassi won't have a regular role.

Astros | Max Stassi out six weeks

Tue, 15 Mar 2016 05:52:00 -0700

Houston Astros C Max Stassi (hand) will miss six weeks due to surgery to repair a broken hamate bone in his left hand.

Fantasy Tip: Stassi was a top prospect a few years ago, but he has no fantasy value right now. He was in line to be the backup catcher.

Astros | Max Stassi has hand injury

Sun, 13 Mar 2016 09:11:38 -0700

Houston Astros C Max Stassi (hand) has left spring training camp to have a hamate bone injury in his left hand checked out.

Fantasy Tip: Stassi, who will turn 25 on Tuesday, March 15, was expected to be the favorite to win the Astros' backup catcher job this season. He is a .357 hitter with one home run and seven RBIs in 42 career MLB at-bats and was considered a top prospect not too long ago, although he only batted .211 in 294 at-bats with Class AAA Fresno in 2015. Cs Alfredo Gonzalez and Tyler Heineman could be in the mix for the No. 2 catching job if Stassi is forced to miss an extended period of time.

Astros | Jason Castro sitting out

Wed, 23 Sep 2015 09:17:52 -0700

Houston Astros C Jason Castro is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, Sept. 23. C Max Stassi is behind the plate and is hitting ninth against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Nick Tropeano.

Fantasy Tip: Stassi ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) has only 13 at-bats for the Astros this year but does have five hits and a home run in that short span. Regardless, he's at the bottom of the order and isn't attractive at all on FantasyScore on a day with a full slate of games.

Astros | Max Stassi catching Sunday

Sun, 20 Sep 2015 11:03:48 -0700

Houston Astros C Max Stassi will bat eighth against Oakland Athletics SP Aaron Brooks Sunday, Sept. 20.

Fantasy Tip: Stassi ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) is 3-for-9 with a home run and two RBIs. He has plenty of upside and is worth considering in FantasyScore if you're desperate for cap relief.

Astros | Hank Conger not in the lineup

Mon, 07 Sep 2015 11:50:47 -0700

Houston Astros C Hank Conger is not in the starting lineup against Oakland Athletics SP Felix Doubront Monday, Sept. 7. C Max Stassi will start at catcher and is batting seventh in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Conger ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) should return to the lineup in the next game or two. Stussi ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) probably should not be a starting option in most fantasy leagues.

Astros | Max Stassi in lineup Tuesday

Tue, 01 Sep 2015 14:11:06 -0700

Houston Astros C Max Stassi is in the lineup Tuesday, Sept. 1, against the Seattle Mariners.

Fantasy Tip: Stassi was called up from Class AAA earlier in the week when C Jason Castro went on the 15-day disabled list. He may be a decent source of low-cost production depending on how much he plays in Castro's absence.

Astros | Jason Castro placed on DL

Sat, 29 Aug 2015 14:29:13 -0700

Houston Astros C Jason Castro (quadriceps) was placed on the 15-day disabled list because of a quadriceps injury. The team also recalled C Max Stassi from Class AAA Fresno.

Fantasy Tip: Hank Conger ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) probably will receive most of the starts with Castro out of the lineup. Conger is hitting only .215 this season and is not a great option on FantasyScore.
