Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker has left his Surprise team in the Arizona Fall League after two starts to return home to California, club officials confirmed Sunday, Oct. 19, in a news release. "Taijuan is completely healthy and was very impressive in his two outings," general manager Jack Zduriencik said, "but made a personal decision that he needed to return home at this time. He will continue with his off-season program, and we look forward to seeing him at spring training in February."

Seattle Mariners 1B Jesus Montero (hand) has recovered from a hand injury that required stitches after being involved in a car accident while playing winter ball in Venezuela. He will report to camp early with the pitchers and catchers on Feb. 12. Montero is being viewed primarily as a first baseman now, though general manager Jack Zduriencik said he might see a little duty behind the plate early in camp when extra catchers are needed.

Baseball sources in the know indicate Seattle Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik won't be fired with one year remaining on his contract. The feeling is the Mariners have some good young talent on the way and if Zduriencik can retain 1B/DH Kendrys Morales and OF's Raul Ibanez and Mike Morse, he has a chance to really make some progress.

Seattle Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik said he'd prefer not to deal any of the team's top prospects, but he isn't against making a move in the right scenario this winter. "No one is an untouchable," Zduriencik said on. "There's a few. ... Felix (Hernandez) would be a guy you don't want to trade. We've talked about that. But in terms of young guys who have yet to prove what they are, that's a wonderful commodity to have."

Although the Seattle Mariners are looking for another starting pitcher, general manager Jack Zduriencik has no plans to move RP Charlie Furbush back to the rotation. "When [Furbush] was acquired, we viewed him as a left-handed reliever in the long run," Zduriencik said. "His delivery and array of pitches lend itself to fitting in that role. He has done well in that role and it's a strong need for any bullpen."
