Pirates | Jeff Locke puts together impressive start

Wed, 24 Apr 2013 11:28:09 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jeff Locke gave up only two hits in six scoreless innings to beat the Philadelphia Phillies Tuesday, April 23, and he struck out six and walked two hitters.

Fantasy Tip: Locke has decent stuff and should be owned in NL-only leagues. Don't overlook him in deep mixed leagues.

Pirates | Jeff Locke could stick in rotation

Fri, 19 Apr 2013 11:27:41 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jeff Locke, who allowed four runs and six hits while walking four and striking out three in 4 2/3 innings in a loss to the Atlanta Braves Thursday, April 18, could stick around in the rotation even after SPs Jeff Karstens (shoulder) and Francisco Liriano (arm) return from their injuries.

Fantasy Tip: Locke will have to pitch better than his effort last night to convince Clint Hurdle to keep him in the rotation. In Locke's defense, he was facing a red-hot Atlanta Braves squad. Only consider Locke in NL-only leagues, especially since he may be without a job in a few weeks.

Pirates | Jeff Locke more likely for relief

Wed, 23 Jan 2013 13:31:25 -0800

Between Pittsburgh Pirates SPs Jeff Locke and Kyle McPherson, who will both be starting rotation insurance heading into spring training, Locke is more likely to transition to a relief role if the team needs it at any point. Locke could become the second lefty in the bullpen along with RP Tony Watson. Locke gave up only one hit in 4 1/3 relief innings last year, and hitters typically have much more success the second time they see him in the same game.
