Pirates | Jeff Locke in bullpen for now

Sat, 23 Jul 2016 08:14:13 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jeff Locke will be available out of the bullpen this weekend against the Philadelphia Phillies. Locke's move to the bullpen probably will be temporary, and he likely will return to the rotation when the team needs a fifth starter again.

Fantasy Tip: Locke has struggled this season and has allowed 13 runs in 14 1/3 innings in four appearances this month. He could return to starting rotation in a few weeks but should be avoided by most fantasy owners.

Pirates | Jeff Locke absorbs sixth loss

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 21:31:54 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jeff Locke allowed five runs on seven hits in three innings against the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday, July 20. He walked five and struck out five.

Fantasy Tip: Locke struggled mightily Wednesday night, allowing 12 base runners in four-plus innings, and his last two starts have underwhelmed after looking good during a three-game win streak. He's a match-up play in deeper mixed leagues, but one that can blow up in your face.

Pirates | Jameson Taillon to pitch Tuesday

Sun, 17 Jul 2016 09:43:58 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jameson Taillon (shoulder) is scheduled to come off the disabled list to face the Milwaukee Brewers Tuesday, July 19. SP Jeff Locke will start against Milwaukee Wednesday, July 20, with SP Francisco Liriano pitching Thursday, July 21.

Fantasy Tip: Taillon is 2-1 with a 3.86 ERA through his first five MLB starts, with five walks and 21 strikeouts over 28 innings. Although the matchup appears favorable, DFS owners may want to avoid using the 24-year-old right-hander in his first game after being activated.

Pirates | Tyler Glasnow in a holding pattern

Thu, 14 Jul 2016 05:46:43 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Tyler Glasnow isn't listed as a scheduled starter for Class AAA Indianapolis after the All-Star break, and the team is trying to deal SP Jon Niese or SP Jeff Locke to open a spot for him in the Pirates' rotation.

Fantasy Tip: Glasnow has a ton of potential and should be held onto in traditional formats if possible. At worst, he'll make a few starts in the minors before returning when rosters expand in September.

Pirates | Jeff Locke roughed up by Cardinals

Wed, 06 Jul 2016 23:17:47 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jeff Locke gave up five runs on eight hits over four innings against the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday, July 6. He walked one and struck out three.

Fantasy Tip: Locke had won three straight starts coming into Wednesday, but he looked more like the pitcher that allowed 18 runs in two outings prior to his recent winning streak. The southpaw doesn't strike out many hitters, which coupled with his inconsistency makes him an NL-only/deep mixed option.

Pirates | Jeff Locke wins third straight

Fri, 01 Jul 2016 23:54:30 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jeff Locke allowed three earned runs, three hits and three walks with three strikeouts over five innings in a win Friday, July 1, against the Seattle Mariners. He has won three straight starts.

Fantasy Tip: The southpaw is 3-0 with a 1.93 ERA over the past three starts dating back to June 15. He doesn't strike out a lot of batters, but as long as he is winning he is an obvious attractive fantasy play across the board.

Pirates | Jeff Locke bounces back in a big way

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 19:46:30 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jeff Locke rebounded from consecutive terrible outings Monday, June 20, blanking the San Francisco Giants over 6 2/3 innings en route to a 1-0 home victory. Locke had surrendered 18 runs in 8 2/3 frames over his previous two starts in road losses to the New York Mets and Colorado Rockies.

Fantasy Tip: Locke, who is 4-1 with a 3.26 ERA at home as opposed to 2-4 with a 7.36 ERA away from Pittsburgh, may have just saved his spot in the rotation with this one. Despite the fine start, the southpaw is far too inconsistent and doesn't possess enough swing-and-miss stuff to be considered outside of NL-only and very deep mixed leagues.

Pirates | Jeff Locke suffers loss Wednesday

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 20:20:06 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jeff Locke (5-5) allowed seven runs on nine hits over four innings in a loss to the New York Mets Wednesday, June 14, with one walk and three strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: In his last two starts, Locke has given up 18 runs on 20 hits over 8 2/3 innings and has seen his ERA rise from 4.28 to 5.95. He should be avoided in all fantasy formats for the foreseeable future.
