Twins.MLB.com's Kelly Thesier reports Minnesota Twins SS Miguel Angel Sano will play under the name Miguel Jean when he comes to the United States. He played with the name Sano, his mother's maiden name, to respect the Dominican Republic. The plan is to have him start his career with the Twins' rookie Gulf Coast League squad in Fort Myers, Fla.

Kelly Thesier, of MLB.com, reports Minnesota Twins SS Miguel Angel Sano was issued a work visa this week, and is now free to play for the team in the United States. He is expected to play for the team's rookie Gulf Coast League team in the summer next season.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review's Rob Biertempfel reports Pittsburgh Pirates general manager Neal Huntington has no regrets about how negotiations for draft pick Miguel Angel Sano turned out. "We had a clear understanding that when (Rob Plummer, Sano's agent) was ready, he would give us a call," Huntington said. "Unfortunately, that didn't happen. That's the frustrating part about it. We tried to follow the process... We move on. There are players still out there who are eligible to be signed."

La Velle E. Neal III, of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, reports the Minnesota Twins made their deal with Dominican SS Miguel Angel Sano official Wednesday, Sept. 30. The deal is worth $3.15 million, which is the second largest bonus ever given to a Latin American player and the largest for a position player. Sano is expected to bypass the Latin American program and begin with the Twins' Gulf Coast League team.

Jorge Arangure Jr., of ESPN The Magazine, reports the Minnesota Twins will sign Dominican free-agent SS Miguel Angel Sano for a $3.15 million bonus, according to his agent, Rob Plummer. Sano's deal is contingent upon obtaining a visa to play in the United States.

The Pittsburgh Pirates made one formal offer - less than $3 million - on July 2 but pulled the offer two weeks ago out of frustration that the process was taking so long. They are the only team known to have made a paper offer.
