Mitchell and Adam Warren. "They're so close, we just chose (Phelps). He's a guy that holds runners, has three or four pitches and performed well at Triple-A," manager Joe Girardi said. "His strikeout-walk ratio has been pretty good."

Mitchell allowed a run and two hits over three innings Tuesday, April 3, pushing his spring ERA to 2.60. Phelps worked 1 1/3 scoreless innings to lower his spring ERA to 2.08. Warren won't make any more spring appearances, so manager Joe Girardi will decide on the job soon.
