The Kansas City Royals named Don Wakamatsu as their new bench coach and catching instructor and Mike Jirschele as an assistant coach Friday, Oct. 25. Wakamatsu served as a special assignment scout for the New York Yankees last year and Jirschele was the manager for Triple-A Omaha since 2003.

However, Los Angeles Dodgers third base coach Tim Wallach, Baltimore Orioles third base coach DeMarlo Hale, Cleveland Indians bench coach Sandy Alomar Jr., Blue Jays bench coach Don Wakamatsu and Blue Jays third base coach Brian Butterfield are still believed to be in the running.
