The Oakland Athletics acquired RP Luke Gregerson from the San Diego Padres Tuesday, Dec. 3, in exchange for OF Seth Smith.
Fantasy Tip: The A's have seriously bolstered the back end of their bullpen the last several days with the acquisitions of Gregerson and Jim Johnson. Johnson figures to get the first crack at closing duties, but Ryan Cook or Gregerson could get some opportunities if he falters. Cook likely would have the upper hand on the ninth inning over Gregerson.

San Diego Padres RP Luke Gregerson will fill-in as the team's closer for at least the first two games of the upcoming week with RP Huston Street (personal) away from the team to attend his grandmother's funeral.
Fantasy Tip: Gregerson remains a strong play in all rotisserie formats for help in the ERA and WHIP categories, and now he might be able to chip in with a save or two, too.

San Diego Padres RP Huston Street (personal) will be unavailable for the next two days, as he will be in Texas to attend his grandmother's funeral. RP Luke Gregerson will fill in if save situations arise
Fantasy Tip: It's a good idea to reserve Street for the upcoming week, as at best Street will be available for five games.

The San Diego Padres are not in a hurry to trade RP Luke Gregerson because he'll be under club control for another season. The Padres will only consider trading him if they can receive a major league-ready player that will contribute next season.

The Philadelphia Phillies have had talks with the San Diego Padres about sending them RP Luke Gregerson and an outfielder for a package of young players. However, the Phillies are exploring other deals that would keep them from giving up some of their advanced prospects. "They've never said they felt like they had no chance this year," one executive said about the Phils. "But they're more focused on building their team for next year and beyond. They've never shown a lot of interest in players who can be free agents after this season."

The San Diego Padres activated RP Huston Street (calf) from the 15-day disabled list Friday, June 14.
Fantasy Tip: If he doesn't immediately reclaim the closer role, it should happen in the coming days. Luke Gregerson (and, for the more desperate, Dale Thayer) remain worth holding for a bit to see how the injury-prone Street responds to returning.

The San Diego Padres have placed CL Huston Street (calf) on the 15-day disabled list with a calf strain. It was the same calf strain that landed him on the disabled list last year, but Padres manager Bud Black said this injury is not as severe. RPs Luke Gregerson and Dale Thayer will be used to close games in Street's absence, with the former expected to get the bulk of the save chances.
Fantasy Tip: Gregerson should be picked up in all fantasy universes and played until Street's return from the DL. Thayer has limited value but could be looked to if you are desperate for save chances.
